About this listen

In this splendidly bittersweet romantic comedy, enemies forced together by a mutual loss are led on a cross-country journey toward a second chance.

Maddie Sanderson would be proud to honor her older brother’s dying wish, that she scatters his ashes over eight destinations that the adventurous 29-year-old never got to visit before he died from cancer. But in his will, Josh assigned her an impossible partner to help complete the mission—Dominic Perry. Seriously, if Maddie weren’t already at her brother's funeral, she would have killed him for this.

Sure, Dom was Josh’s life-long best friend. He’s also the infuriating man who broke Maddie’s heart back when she was naïve enough to give it to him. But since Dom insists on following the rules and Josh didn’t leave much room for Maddie to argue the matter, they embark together on a series of farewell trips that span thousands of miles, exploring new places and revisiting their complicated history along the way.

After a snowstorm leads to a shared bed, Maddie starts to wonder if her brother might be matchmaking from the grave. But when grief also reopens old wounds between them, Maddie will need more than Josh’s ghostly guidance to trust Dom again.

Story was generally okay- but wow was the main character annoying. The idea of the story was nice but the main character is sooooo unlikeable.

I absolutely loved this story! The growth from Maddie is huge. The relationships that come back together is amazing, witnessing the love between everyone makes your heart ache for them all. You can feel the love between every main character. Lauren wrote this beautifully.

Bawling!

This was a bittersweet, beautiful story about healing and figuring out how to more forward after loss.
Maddie’s brother (her only close family member) passed away after a battle with cancer. He left letters for his loved ones, and Maddie’s letter sends her to scatter his ashes in eight locations he never got to visit…with his best friend, Dominic…who broke Maddie’s heart years ago.

I loved that this book was spread out over a couple years. It allowed the trips to happen over an appropriate amount of time, and it also allowed the relationship between Maddie and Dom to develop slowly and realistically. Maddie was such a relatable character. Everyone in her past has left her, and she had her guard way up. I loved her journey of allowing Dom to break down her walls, and her realization that maybe she was pushing him away instead. Dominic started out pretty stoic, and I wasn’t sure I was going to like him, but he opened up and became the sweetest man to Maddie. This book made me laugh, cry, and feel all the feels over Maddie and Dom’s journey.

I absolutely loved Karissa Vacker’s narration. She was the perfect voice for Maddie’s POV, and her voices for the other characters were well done too. I highly recommend this audiobook for anyone looking for a romance that also explores deeper topics.

I really wanted to like this book. I never write bad reviews. I just won’t leave one if I didn’t enjoy the book, but this book drove me nuts I don’t know that I have ever hated a female character more than I hated this girl. She was whiny, negative, and complained through the entire book. She was so insecure and just awful. I did like the MMC and he sounded amazing and deserved so much better. not worth the listen or the credit IMO.

Solid audio book with a great narrator - interesting but I think it would have benefited from a second perspective / I would have liked hearing some scenarios from Dom’s perspective. He seems like a saint but we hear little about what he’s going through and feeling. Narrator’s complete fixation on her brother seems a little much, but grief hits everyone differently.

Good not great

Guess what, I like the story although the grief of the main character was complicated. At times the main character was bratty and mean. At other times i understood why she was so broken which complicated her grief. The guy was solid and I found myself feeling sorry for him. He was so nice and had to remain calm even though he was grieving too.

It is complicated

Ahhhh.. I'm completely obsessed with this book! Finally, a strong female who speaks her mind (cussing like a sailor). Maddie's story had me hooked, from navigating grief and childhood trauma to finding love with Dominic. The banter, humor, and emotional depth had me tearing up and rooting for them. Oh & the ache for Josh & his short love story 🤧. Karissa Vacker's narration on the audiobook was perfection! The best romance I've read. 5✨

Loveeeee!!
