About this listen

Read by the author.

Are you a people pleaser? Can you even begin to measure how the approval of others has shaped your heart and mind? Your faith and relationships? Your habits and identity? In People Pleaser, New York Times bestselling author Jinger Vuolo shares her personal journey of constantly seeking approval from others and how she found her true identity.

From childhood to early adulthood, Jinger Duggar Vuolo followed the expectations of others, never taking the time to discover who she truly was. It wasn't until she asked herself the question, "Who am I?" that she realized she was a people pleaser. This realization led her on a journey of self-discovery and ultimately, to rely on God for her approval and sense of self-worth.

Through her faith and reliance on God, Jinger began to break free from the need for approval and discover true freedom. This book is a guide for anyone struggling with people-pleasing tendencies and seeking to find their true identity and purpose in life. Learn how to:

  • discover the beauty of community and how we were made to enjoy others,
  • identify sin and how it can hinder your ability to be in community with one another,
  • diagnose yourself with ruthless honesty but without judgement, and
  • understand who you are in God's eyes.

Jinger hopes this book will inspire others to embark on a similar journey towards freedom.

Very helpful

It is a good Christian book on how to follow Christ, and break away from people pleasing. Highly recommend.

Great, but would be better to have the physical book.

Absolutely adore Jinger. I loved her previous book so I thought I’d get this one.
I could see this book being beneficial to People Pleasers, which I am not and had a hard time relating.
I do feel that this book would be better as a physical book. I think for people pleasers it would be a good book to do as a women’s study. There are questions you can ask yourself at the end of every section.
So all you people pleasers get this book, but get the physical book and take notes.

The HOW to working on people pleasing

Jinger's willingness to share her heart comes through. You can hear her honesty and openness in sharing and doing what God/Father has shared through His word. From one people pleaser to another, thank you for sharing your heart.

Relatable

I felt myself nodding at many of the questions and concepts she addressed, my 2 star rating is entirely based on the pronunciation of Jesus.

Excellent biblically sound book

Jinger does an amazing job at helping you realize what it means to be a good people pleaser and a bad people pleaser her scripture references really help bring out the differences and what we should strive to be to be better people

Nice lesson

I am a people pleaser. Not to the extent that is mentioned in the book but it was still a good lesson and good to think about. worth the time.

Excellent!

I love this book! I heard Jinger on the Alley Beth Stuckey podcast recently and knew I had to listen to it. I believe this book was cathartic for her as she has to wrestle with her strict religious upbringing in the public eye, to where she is now, enjoying her freedom in Christ alone. SDG! She has had to learn how to deal with not only the public (and paparazzi) but her church community in a healthy way. I like the questions at the end of the chapters and it had me thinking of ways that I can ask God to help me not to perform, or people please wrongly, but to seek authentic community. I am a pastors wife and this hits home for me. I like what she says about “trading down” earlier in the book thinking thru the story of Jacob and Esau. I hope to listen to it again, thank you for this great book!

Love it!

I really enjoyed this book! I wouldn’t say I am a people pleaser. I will say there were a lot of Biblical nuggets in here! I even had a revelation about how Jesus not only took our sin, He also took the punishment for our sin. I’ve heard this my whole life. However, hearing it in this book it really clicked! I would say I have the anxiety Jinger had about people coming over to my home. Hearing how she navigated that & her TJ Maxx story was really reassuring to me!

Living life through Jesus

Love the way Jinger relates the stories and learning directly to the Bible. Learning good and bad people pleasing.
