Publisher's summary

A loveless marriage of convenience on the Kansas prairie turns out to be far more than she bargained for....

He's part of the west

Briggs Brigman has been burned once before, and the last thing he needs is a beautiful wife who will spend hours in front of the mirror, primping herself. He knows how hard the prairie can be on a woman, and all he wants is a stalwart bride who won't complain about hauling water from the creek....

She's a city girl with no idea what she's in for....

All Sarah MacFarland wants is to escape her fearful life in Boston and start fresh with a new identity. Answering an advertisement for a mail order bride seems like the perfect solution, until she meets her soon-to-be husband - a ruggedly handsome, strapping farmer who leaves her breathless on their wedding night. But is it possible that two tormented souls can find happiness, when all they know is betrayal, and when trust is the only way out of a tumultuous past that simply won't stay buried?

Contains mature themes.

Okay listen

Since this was a freebie, it was worth a listen, but not sure I would’ve been happy to spend a credit. I liked the heroine and her perseverance to circumstances that aren’t her fault. The “hero” of the story is a stubborn donkey. I tried to remind myself that the timeline only covers a month, but how little he trusts his new wife and how he is mean in the beginning just make me want to punch him.

Great Plot

First time reading this writer, very good plot. Lots of historical details. Not a fan of the reader, her performance was lackluster.

Grate story

It was a great story and beautifully written. The author kept the reader in suspense, never quite letting them know where things were going to land.

Hate stupid women

Story ok, but the FMCs made such ridiculous decisions I just couldn't stand it. Why she doesn't open her mouth and tell the truth is beyond me.

Interesting historical romance

I found this story to be interesting and things kept happening at a good pace that kept me wondering what will happen next and how will this mess get resolved. I liked it. The narration was very good.

Very good story

I finished it in a day (lol)! I couldn’t stop listening as I did work around my house. I put it on thru my sound bar. My only irritation was towards the ending, Briggs needed to man up a little quicker. He made me mad. I 100% loved Sara.

Just okay..

It started great but soon declined into nonstop frustration. It was entertaining to a point but by no means a literary success. It reminded me more of one of those old Readers Digest stories.
