About this listen

Cybernetics (loosely translated from the Greek): "a helmsman who steers his ship to port". Psycho-cybernetics is a term coined by Dr. Maxwell Maltz that means "steering your mind to a productive, useful goal so you can reach the greatest port in the world: peace of mind".

Since its first publication in 1960, Maltz's landmark best seller has inspired and enhanced the lives of more than 30 million readers. In this updated edition, with a new introduction and editorial commentary by Matt Furey, president of the Psycho-Cybernetics Foundation, the original text has been annotated and amplified to make Maltz's message even more relevant for the contemporary audience.

"Before the mind can work efficiently, we must develop our perception of the outcomes we expect to reach. Maxwell Maltz calls this Psycho-Cybernetics; when the mind has a defined target it can focus and direct and refocus and redirect until it reaches its intended goal." (Tony Robbins, from Unlimited Power)

Maltz was the first researcher and author to explain how the self-image (a term he popularized) has complete control over an individual's ability to achieve (or failure to achieve) any goal. And he developed techniques for improving and managing self-image - visualization, mental rehearsal, relaxation - that have informed and inspired countless motivational gurus, sports psychologists, and self-help practitioners for more than 50 years.

The teachings of psycho-cybernetics are timeless because they are based on solid science and provide a prescription for thinking and acting that lead to quantifiable results.

Critic reviews

"Psycho-Cybernetics is a classic personal development book. Most of the current speakers in the area of personal development, including Zig Ziglar, Tony Robbins, Brian Tracy and others owe a debt to Maxwell Maltz for the foundation of their material. The psychological training of Olympic athletes is also based on the concepts in Psycho-Cybernetics. Thousands, possibly millions, of people have benefited by putting these ideas to work. Put Psycho-Cybernetics on your 'must-read' list." (Michael C. Gray, Profit Advisors)

"Published in 1960, Psycho-Cybernetics remains one the classics of self-help, self-improvement, and personal development." (Mind of Success)

"An invaluable aid to the layman, offering a sound, scientific method of practical self-improvement." (Mark Freeman, PhD, clinical psychologist)

amazing book that provides the secrets to mastering your life and mind! I first read it about ten years ago and thought it was good, but now, after listening to the new and updated version, I think it's an all-time great!

Discover the power of the mind with this book!

This book includes some excellent advice. But it is very dated. The author was clearly an old white Christian man from the era of white Christian male privilege, and he’s also clearly trying very hard to draw imperfect parallels between humans and machines that aren’t based on current evolutionary psychology. Also the narration sucked... super annoying manner of speaking. And the Matt Furey commentaries added nothing for me. Still, I gave it 4 stars because Dr. Maltz has some great life advice in there.

Some great advice, but...

I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did. Specially because at the beginning, the vocabulary and the acting didn’t amuse me.

YOU MUST LISTEN TO THIS AT 1.4x/1.5x speed, trust me.

Then, around chapter 3/4 I think, he starts hitting you with some truth bombs that no matter how many books of this type you have read, no one explained this to you like this before. I had to start writing concepts down and I was constantly saying “#%*£, that is super true”.

I must re listen to it as soon as possible, to soak the concepts a bit more. I wasn’t expecting yo write this review, I was sure I wasn’t going to finish it, but I did...and I can’t wait to re listen to it with a more open mind and heart,

Absolutely loved it, definitely recommend’
