About this listen
When beautiful Angelina Foley presents Tom Radigan with a Spanish grant and claims ownership of his land, he realizes he's up against a cunning and deadly opportunist. Foley wants him off Vache Creek immediately, and with 3,000 head of cattle, an outfit of hardcase gunfighters, and winter coming on, she is unwilling to take no for an answer.
But Radigan has worked four hard years building up his ranch. Fighting for it - and, if he has to, killing for it - is something he is more than willing to do. If Angelina Foley and her men think he is the kind of man to give up without a fight, they are dead wrong.

Story
The story was that Eli Patterson had died in a gunfight, but Mike Shevlin knew it couldn't be true: The man who'd been like a father to him had been a Quaker. But when Shevlin rides back to Rafter Crossing to uncover the truth, he finds that the quiet ranching community has become a booming mining town. Newfound wealth has not made Rafter a peaceful place, however, and the smell of fear and greed is thick in the air.

Story
Cowboy stories and movies about the Wild West are full of amazing characters. Yet many of the lawmen we think of as heroes were anything but - some were violent scoundrels and outlaws themselves. Among all the lawmen of the frontier, one man stands out as a true hero: Bass Reeves. In his day, Bass Reeves was the most successful federal marshal in the United States. True to the mythical code of the West, he never drew his gun first. He rounded up hundreds of outlaws and was shot at countless times but was never hit. Bass Reeves was born into slavery.

Excellent story line!
My wife and I truly enjoyed this unabridged story of Radigan written by Louis L'Amour and read by Jason Culp. As the plot unfolded we were definitely challenged by the intense drama that was developing between the main characters from both sides of the plot. We love the authentic storyline of the old west and are so glad that our daughter and her husband bought us this Audible Plus membership. We grew up reading L'Amour unabridged books and are so happy we could get these authentic stories from our early teens. Growing up on a cattle farm in East Tennessee really helps you understand the authenticity of Louis L'Amours work. Thanks for helping these two 54 years of married together old people, who were each other's sweethearts in High School, enjoy the time together listening to this story as we put a great puzzle together that matches the story era!

An enjoyable listen!
It was a different book compared to his other westerns, but I enjoyed his explanations for how the characters were working through the various scenarios. It was a fun listen and I was hooked early on.
