About this listen

BLAKE TANNER never thought she'd return to her hometown after her brother Reed died in a tragic accident. But when her mom gets injured, she comes home to help out on her family's ranch. Now, she can't hide from the grief, the people, or the guilt that she's been running from.

GAVIN MONTGOMERY didn't plan for his life to be this way. He didn't ask to be stuck with a pile of debt, the responsibility of a failing family business, or a little brother with a drinking problem. But when his dad died nine months ago, Gavin had no choice but to step up and take care of his family, even if that involved hiding the truth from them: that they're about to lose everything.

When Blake reluctantly agrees to attend a charity "date auction" at the local townie bar, she figures supporting the family of her late brother's best friend is the right thing to do.

But getting back in the saddle might be a mistake. Because even if she's an expert rider, there's no way in hell she's letting that cowboy hold the reins.

Will Blake and Gavin find a way to work through their grief and ride off into the sunset?

Or will they be over faster than an eight-second ride?

Contains mature themes.

This book is dual narration and Let me just tell you that Desiree Ketchum is TALENTED. I’m always in awe when a female is able to do both parts and you can differentiate characters! She is incredibly and I will be listening to many more of her narrations. As for Grayson Owens. He was the perfect southern cowboy. He made Gavin sounds so yummy! And thought Gavin is younger than Blake, Grayson did not make him sound childish or immature. He had a nice firm yet warming sound to him. Both narrators gave a lot of emotion in this story and it was an easy and enticing listen!

This book is a heartwarming combination of raw emotion, romance & steam, and had me feeling all the feels. Don’t forget to check your TWs–both MCs deal with the loss of a family member & grief is a primary theme throughout.

Desiree Ketchum as Blake Tanner. Blake returns home 5 years after her brother has passed, has been avoiding dealing with her new reality of life without her little brother, and being home is proving difficult. Ketchum channels the pain & anger Blake experiences to carefully craft a believable and emotional journey through grief, trauma & finding love while healing.

Grayson Owens as Gavin Montgomery. Gavin is Blake’s brother’s best friend, and experiencing his own grief after his father passed–leaving Gavin to pick up the pieces to save his family’s ranch. Gavin is only 24, but has the weight of the world on his shoulders. The exhaustion, pressure & stress Gavin experiences while trying to prioritize his own happiness, is felt in Owens’s delivery with a slight Texan drawl.

If you’re a fan of cowboy romances with substance and spice, then highly recommend!

This is not my first Kayla Grosse book, and I assumed I'd love it. I did, and it may be my favorite of her books!

Gavin and Blake's love story is snarky, fun, sweet, spicy, and heartwarming. But it's also a deeper tale of loss, grief, growth, and triumph.

As always, Kayla's storytelling is fantastic and her characters are well written. I am always pulled right into her beautiful stories.

Desireé and Grayson are not new narrators to me. I believe both performed masterfully in these roles. Their acting and emotions were amazing. I found myself holding my breath, laughing, and crying along with them. Very well done!

If you love cowboys, romance, and a story of triumph with terrific narration, get this audiobook!

I loved the audiobook! Performed in dual narration by Desiree Ketchum and Grayson Owens. This cowboy romance surprised me in the best way! Desiree and Grayson were perfect as Blake and Gavin. Their performance is one you don't want to miss. Desiree captured Blake's voice so well. The emotional turmoil that Blake had to go through with her brother you can feel in the narration. Grayson is a new to me narrator. I loved how he captured Gavin's confidence and charming nature. His transitions through each character voice was seamless. I immediately felt the connection to his portrayal of Gavin.

Blake was a horse trainer back at home and did barrel racing. When her brother Reed dies from a horse racing accident Blake leaves home. Years later Blake comes back home to help her family out.

Gavin is struggling to keep his family's ranch open so he partakes in a town fundraiser hoping to raise money for his family. He didn't expect to see Blake again after so many years though.

I loved how this was a reverse age gap. Blake is older than Gavin. I also loved how the story balanced between the light hearted moments and I was surprised it was a bit emotional and suspenseful. Overall, I enjoyed this one.

I thought the narrators did a wonderful job. The story was good, though I think the second epilogue was unnecessary. It felt a little like a scene that was thrown in. All in all, not bad.

Great narration

It was a cute book, steamy for sure. There really isn’t anything bad necessarily to say it just wasn’t a super complex story in my opinion it does deal with loss and pain and getting over that. Overall 3 stars.

Cute fun read!
