About this listen

Reincarnated into his old self, Li Wei starts over at the lowest point of his life. Marred with a crippled body, he has to depend on his mastery of arrays and future knowledge to carve his own path in the brutal cultivation world.

With his old friends and animal companions, Li Wei sets out on an epic journey to fix his past life's mistakes, achieve his dao, and fight the heavens.

With a SYSTEM to help him, his journey might be easier this time.

Or it might not be....

Special Note: This book contains unique body cultivation, array crafting, alchemy, and slapping bad guys with overpowered skills. And a SYSTEM.

The series so far is enjoyable all in all, but there are a few qualms. First, the books become a bit repetitive; the MC will do, think, or experience something in the book and then within a few chapters the author will either reference that as if it happened several books ago or have the MC think the same thing as if it was the first time. While not a deal breaker in itself, it does get old pretty quickly.

Second, for someone trying to live the path of a "lazy immortal", the MC seems to really enjoy getting into fights with people way stronger than him and needing to bust his butt just to stay alive. Which is also weird, you would think some of these foes would have something better to do with their time then fight a kid a fraction of their age.

Finally, there is a surprising amount of cursing in this series, or at least there is in the later books. I don't typicallymind this, but they usually just sound kind of stupid. Imagine a three year old trying to cuss out at a mcdonalds when they only learned a handful of words from south park reels.

Like I said, the story really isn't bad, but if you're expecting something like Beware of Chicken or even Blue Phoenix this definitely isn't it; its closer to Silver Fox and the Western Hero.

A contradictory title

I’ve always wished for it and this story does a great job at the reincarnation tale. Very well done, and while I don’t agree with the MC’s goal, I do like the direction that the reluctant hero finds himself pushed. Well done, and Steve did a fine narration job as well!!

This is a really good reincarnation story. It brings him back to his youthful self with all the knowledge but he has to grow stronger. He really has an awful family. But he finds a way to get out again, and this time he does it a different way. The narrator is really good and I really enjoyed the story.

If I had to do it all over again.

This is going to be a great series because once I started I was hooked and enjoyed it and can’t wait for more

Fantastic beginning

So...listening to this book, it is either a masterful parody of translated cultivation novels or is one of the most over the top versions of the same. In the beginning, I was trying to figure out if an AI wrote the book because things are just such an over the top mishmash of terms, and then explanations of those terms, which are even more over the top and subtly different/wrong compared with other cultivation novels. Now, having listened to the second book as well, I am confident this is quite the parody. I was laughing quite a bit with the first book because it was just so many over the top scenes on top of each other. Anyway, I highly recommend this book of you are in the mood for an over the top parody where the MC isn't in on the joke and takes it all very seriously.

Fun and funny cultivation parody

Overall, it was actually a fairly good story, but became a little bit predictable. But that’s OK. It’s because it gave off the feeling of a true asian cultivation novel and many of the predictable items, are very common in a asian cultivation novel.

Good but somewhat predictable.

I love cultivation novels, this one is especially good. Many times this type of novel is hard to follow with very complicated systems and very similar names making it hard to follow. This book does a great job packaging the info to be palatable and easy to digest.

Great series opener

I was honestly shocked and surprised at how well this cultivation story was put together. I was expecting the same old trope of reincarnated MC uses knowledge to make himself Superman right away and take over the world. While some of that may be true, he finds a crap ton of new things that he never knew, and it changes his whole plan in the making.

Nicely done on the narration as well.

I was given this book at my request for an honest review.

surprisingly good story

If you like Wuxia and progression novels give this one a guy. Definitely some vibes similar to some of the farmer reincarnation stories that are super popular right now.
