Critic reviews

“A Thousand Li is one of the best English-language cultivation series out there, written with obvious love for the genre. If you’ve heard about cultivation but don’t know where to begin, this is a great place to start.” —Will Wight, New York Times Best-Selling Author of the Cradle series

Really good!

I was impressed with the detail of training and the characters progression. I was skeptical at first with many cultivation books popping up, but this one was a great one. I'm anxious for the next.

Good Cultivation Fantasy

This is one of the better cultivation novels I have read, I picked this series up because of the narrator, he is fantastic but I enjoyed this story very much.

I really enjoyed it

A good story. There is the tell tale formula but the story and execution don’t let you get bogged down with it

I know I'm late to the party...

This was really good! hooked me pretty early, I am pretty sure it took me maybe 2 sessions and I finished it. If you are a fan of cultivation books this should be very high on your list for sure! Good characters but I do wish there was a bit more development. It seemed as if they all fast became friends without actually knowing anything about each other, and that didn't change after they were apart of the book.

A surprisingly interesting novel

After listening to a number of cultivation novels in the past, I grew indifferent to the genre as many had spent an inordinate amount of ink space focusing on the minutia of the cultivation process at the expense of providing an interesting plot with a steady progression pacing. This prevented me from purchasing the series, even given that Travis Baldree is one of my top narrators. While waiting for a new interesting novel to become available, I noticed that this book had been listed in the Plus Catalog as a free offering and decided to give a listen while I waited.

I was rewarded in finding that this book not only didn't wade in the mundane aspects of cultivation, it offered an interesting plot. While the outline of the story is not unique, the investment Tao Wong put in framing of the MC's upbringing and overcoming hardships easily allowed me to become invested in him. I also enjoyed the naming of the fighting maneuvers during a battle and the prudent use of exposition that allowed the plot to evenly move forward.

After finishing book 1, I was immediately going to purchase book 2 only to notice that it, also was included in the Plus Catalog.

Happy!, Happy!, Joy, Joy!
