Publisher's summary

No more dark mode.

That’s what Bran had promised Kat—and made her promise him. Which was their shorthand for, “Let’s stop killing people”.

But that’s easier said than done when your friend is a hybrid: part human and part mutated apex predator.

On the run from their former lives in Northern California, Bran and Kat find themselves in the Oregon wilderness, searching for a place to call home—a place where they can escape their past, with people that will accept Kat for what she is.

So it seems like a miracle when they stumble across an old monastery, now housing a single woman and five boys–five hybrid boys.

But “Miss Shay” has one rule: absolutely no violence.

The reason behind this rule is doubly hard to live with. In fact, it’s downright dangerous: The father of those five hybrid boys is the alpha male of a pack of primals—human beings whose DNA has been radically mutated by a plague, turning them into hyper-aggressive predators. And this alpha male doesn’t like the threat to his dominance posed by those boys.

Patrick Beckley has been hunting that alpha male for years. He knows that the only way humans will survive on this planet is if they eradicate every single primal. And this particular alpha male—massive, with a cruel streak unusual even for primals—was the one that killed his daughters.

So when Patrick stumbles across a monastery that appears to be harboring young primals, he doesn’t care that they might be half-human. They’re a threat to the human species.

As Bran’s hopes for a peaceful life fall apart, and fragile territorial boundaries erode, he learns that his promises might be harder to keep than he’d thought.

Because in order to protect the ones you love, and have a home in a world gone mad...well, sometimes you have to kill.

About the Performer-D.J. Molles

About the Creator

D.J. Molles became a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author while working full time as a police officer. He's since traded his badge for a keyboard to produce over 20 titles. When he's not writing, he's taking steps to make his North Carolina property self-sustainable, and training to be at least half as hard to kill as Lee Harden (his most popular protagonist). Molles also enjoys playing his guitar and drums, drawing, cooking, and cruising on his Onewheel.
Most nights you can find him sitting on the couch surrounded by his family and three rescue dogs—which he prefers to call "All American Couch Hounds" but are also commonly referred to as "Pillow Pibbles".

Riveting

Totally loved it! The whole series. Cannot wait for the next book. My husband is listening to the books also as he drives to and from work.
The gentleman narrating it is fantastic. Makes you feel like you are actually there.

The performance of each chatacter & the characters themselves.

I have been hoping for this story since the end of The Valley & thought it met my expectations for the continuation of the overall story.

And the Story keeps on Growing

Love this series! One of the best apocalyptic thriller series out there and from a different perspective than most of the others I have read. It's all about change and accepting those changes while learning to cope with life the way it is then. Please send us more!!!!

A good segway

It is a great offshoot from the main story. It’s the only time I felt the series was a little campy…the characters were literally cornered with few options so it was slightly predictable. But I figured (hoped) it was a bridge building book…and thankfully that’s exactly what it is and sets the stage for more in this awesome series and world!

a great sequel to the Valley or should a say a new direction to ride along. A further study in what it means learn to live with or without adapting to the world around. this book has great story lines along with characters that you will get invested in and looking forward to reading the next adventure.

Nice change of view from Lee Harden to Bran

Loved still being in the infected world of Harden, but from a new perspective of Bran and Cat.

killer Combo

Much like the duo of Bran and Kat, D.J. Molles and Christian Rummel are a killer combo. Molles ever expanding "The Remaining" world is brought to life with Rummels distinct voices, giving life to a population trying to survive and maybe grow and rebuild. This world and all those in it keep evolving..... in every since of the word. This is another non stop, can't put it down from molles and will be looking forward to more from this dynamic duo.
