About this listen

A new drug is flooding the streets, capable of giving Magic to humans. It's addictive, powerful... and not what people think it is.

I make a powerful new enemy, alienating the other Archons in the process, and she's clever enough to make me regret it, drawing me ever deeper into a web of vice, power, and evil that I struggle to untangle before it's too late.

I discover new allies but also new threats and terrors from when humanity was young. Monsters close in from every side, bringing heartbreak, loss, and guilt. It will take everything I have to get out of this with my sanity intact and my precious hide in one piece.

And that doesn't even cover the second fairy princess, the large coven of vampires, the crazy Death Mage I get stuck with, and a city so foul it's known simply as Gomorrah.

To think there was a time when I thought getting attacked by a Demon King was the worst thing that could happen to me...

Another Great Story, Can't Wait for Part 5

Great book and great performance, the tempo was great and this story managed to build on a lot of previously established plot lines while establishing many new avenues to go down.

Incessant flirting with a smidge of hypocrisy

Enjoyed it overall. I love the characters and Im excited to continue the story. Matthew is clever but still believably a naive teenager with a penchant for concussions.

That being said... I had to fast foward through some parts that were just non stop repeated gushing. I'm not sure how many times someone can be "kissed on the cheek" in one book. Also the justifying of drugging and R**e regardless of how supernatural it is, was a bit gross. As well, the damning vitriol towards one torturer and the complete forgiveness of another because "all life is precious" came off as more like "all life is precious"..if it's convenient for me and I didn't see the bad parts first hand. All in all I'm getting the next one if that says anything.
So if you can tolerate a not so starry eyed teenager who's moral compass is skewed towards convienience then by all means pick it up.

Too Short

I had a fantastic time listening to this book. For the last 12 hours, I was able to shut off my mind and enjoy the journey. My only complaint is that it needs to be longer. I don't know when the next book will be released, But I am giddy with anticipation.

Good all around except one bit

Good story and performance only one bit after he showed his evidence and then nothing was done about that lady made me scratch my head but whatever

Another absolute BANGER

There are way too many positive things for me to type in this review so I'll just leave my 2 minor complaints.

1) WHY CANT IT BE LONGER!!! Seriously I need these books to be 3x longer, I'm too invested in the story.

2) **** MINOR SPOILER ****

I wish we had more back story on the previous Lord Shadow and Archons. Would've helped me comprehend the relationship and problems Matt and Time/Death and their anger/mistrust towards him. No huge deal but that whole storyline seemed weird without details on the relationship between the previous shadow and the other Archons.

Loved it though!

stupidity

I'm so sick of this character just a door mat with fake morals, constantly shrouded in plot armor thicker than the earths crust. it's honestly a trash book

Flirting and false humility

love this series and couldn't wait for this one to come out and I'll probably get the next but what are they doing with Matty? EVERY female character is gorgeous, and they are all head over heals obsessed with Matty - even the ones that don't like him. flirting and his "but I'm in love, I'll never cheat" professions make up about 50% of this story - I mean he saves the life of one of these girls by kissing her. He kisses at least 3 of these "fan girls", cuddles with 2 others while he sleeps, propels the rumor that he is in a relationship with his teacher/sister thinking its funny all while constantly professing his devotion to his girlfriend who is okay with all of this. Another 30% of the story is his whining and false humility (I'm such a coward/you can't beat me). The remaining 20% of the story is what I loved about the 1st few books - great story, magic and characters. the narrator is incredible but wizard every female MUST have trope wears on you quickly and I fast forwarded through much of that.
