About this listen

The Signal was discovered. The doors opened. Invasion is imminent.

Commander David Bryce returned from his mission, successful, with a derelict alien ship that wasn’t as empty as predicted. With the assistance of an old ally, David is hell-bent on stopping the invasion before it begins. There’s just one problem; the Signal is hidden somewhere on Earth.

Atlas Donovan is the only man capable of helping them, and it’s unclear whether he can trust the ORB employees. One thing is clear: Aliens have been to Earth, and from the looks of it, not just a single race. There were two.

Lennon Baxter’s betrayal threatens to overwhelm her. When her handler demands she complete a final task, she’s forced to make a choice. She may not want to live, but she’ll stop at nothing to prevent what’s coming. The mission always comes first.

Signal is the epic follow-up to the hit book, From Beyond, brought to you by the best-selling author duo Jasper T. Scott and Nathan Hystad.

Great number 2 in the series. There’s a lot more action in this one since book one had all the character development and world building. This had some intense moments - especially with David and his family.

Suffered a tad bit as the middle of the series overall it remains fun, action packed, and entertaining.

Great Number Two.

Hang onto your hat, you are going on a wild ride. I loved the characters and monsters in this book. Do not read it before going to sleep if you are prone to nightmares! WOW all three books are a hoot and kept me on the edge of my chair the whole time. Mr. Scott and Mr. Hystan handed a great writing project to an out standing narrator Ray Porter. Looking forward to more of the same.

Great read. Not for the Meek

It keeps moving through the story without any dragging. I love character development and world building but sometimes you just want a good story that doesn’t get too bogged down on details. Fun read.

Fast paced and well written

Book 2 of From Beyond picks up not long after the events of Book 1, in which the Interloper made a controlled crash landing back to Earth, releasing the Stalkers and Spiders on an unsuspecting population.
The Dark Teams have spread across the globe, initially to prevent them getting away from the crash site, but as information about their presence on Earth is revealed, it becomes the aim of the Dark Teams to stop them getting the Signal. This Signal is a device that if activated, could potentially contact other ships, telling them where the nice fertile planet is, ready for the picking, and lead to the end of humanity.
With the Beyond Crew (those that survived) having returned to Earth, each of them has new missions to complete, with the exception of David Bryce, who is given time to meet up back with his family. Dr Carter Robinson is told about the visitor that Earth has had for some time, and how he is to visit a special project that will make use of his linguistics talents, to try and communicate with something not from this world, but not from the Interloper either.
As David meets his family in Alaska, he finds out that the aliens from the crash have spread across the planet already, and that their ability to ‘infect’ hosts like they did at the end of book 1 has started everywhere. As he and his family try and get to safety, they come under attack, and this leads to David finding a unique piece of technology on one of the Stalkers, something that could very well change the course of the battle with the aliens on Earth.
Meanwhile, Lennon Baxter, back as Dark Three, is at the forefront of the Dark Teams, one of Dark Leaders chosen, and hellbent on retribution for her failure to destroy the Interloper. She is angry also at finding out that Dark One, Rutger, and the man she once loved and thought was killed in action, is actually still alive. Worse, she has been teamed up with him to create a Super-Team that can respond to any threat or scenario that Dark Leader needs.
Together Dark One and Three are sent on several significant operations that will change the outcome of what is fast becoming a battle for the very survival of the planet. But during these missions, there is also a very real battle for Lennon’s soul, as she is fighting with the demons of her past, her new found interest in life now that she has realised she might have an interest in Atlas, but her continued need to please Dark Leader for her internal validation. Lennon’s character is perhaps one of the most intriguing and complex characters in the book, and it is fascinating watching her develop from the quasi-suicidal figure struggling with PTSD in the first book, to her change above the Beyond as she starts to not only care about her own life, but those of the crew, and now in book 2, where she has a very real passion for life. But underlying that is her continual need to seek validation from Dark Leader, at any cost, including her own life. Lennon is a truly tragic character.
Atlas Donovan has been teamed up with Dark Seven (James Wong), to go and find the Signal. Dark Leader, (Booth), is actually impressed that Atlas has managed to find two pieces of the ship with little to no resources, not to mention all the research and information he gathered. As a result, he thinks that he is the perfect person to find the second ship and the Signal, and sends Atlas, with Wong as backup, to go and find it. The two head off into the Amazon jungle to seek the crashed ship, based on all the knowledge of where it could be crashed. These two also face the dangers of Stalkers and infected humans as they fight to reach their goal.
Book 2 is a desperate race against a much larger force, and with technology that is vastly superior, not to mention that they can infect humans easily to convert them too the enemy’s side. This is a fast paced, action-packed thriller, full of intrigue, sci-fi and a good deal of gritty, intense and very graphic scenes at times. The world building in this series is just exceptional, the descriptive work with regards to the combat, and the aliens is nothing short of masterful. The aliens themselves are the stuff of nightmares, H.R. Giger eat your heart out, the Stalkers and Spiders are terrifying monstrosities, the depiction of the spiders streaming over a victim and literally peeling the layers off of them whilst they are still living is just horrific. The detail and descriptive work on the ships, the weapons, geospatial coordinates, tech, everything, is incredibly well done.
Something I am always amazed with in Hystad and Scott’s books is just the quality of the character work as well with regards to aspects such as character roles, psychological states (such as PTSD – Lennon is outstanding – from someone who deals with it daily), to the fear in the parents, or the complete ‘alien’ nature of aliens and how they respond to things. Carter comments several times on how they are very different to us and we can’t compare.
This is a thrilling series, once you start reading you can’t put it down, and it is one of the few in which it actually gets better as the series progresses (I thought book 2 was better than book 1 as it unfolded). If you like Sci-Fi, if you liked ‘Aliens’, or like any of that genre with thrills, intrigue, but with really exceptional characters, this is a must.
Ray Porter is easily one of the best Narrators in the industry today, with a voice that is just so easy to listen to. He has a wonderful range of both male and female character voices, all slightly different, so that they provide a full range of different characters during the story. Porter also provides the emotional state of each of the characters, so you can understand how each of them are feeling as the story unfolds, whether that be angry, sad, scared confused, or happy.
Porter is brilliant, and the audiobook is not just an option, it is an absolute must – one of those times in which you have to listen rather than read, as you get so much more out of an already outstanding book!!

If they get the Signal, Humanity is Doomed!!

What an enthralling, albeit mortifying, alien invasion plot! This volume is considerably better than Book-1.

An Electronic "Page-Turner"-Better than VOL-1
