But even a maverick plays by rules, and Trump has formulated time-tested guidelines for success. He isolates the common elements in his greatest accomplishments; he shatters myths; he names names, spells out the zeros, and fully reveals the deal-maker's art. There's no shortage of networking and entrepreneurship advice in books and on social media in today's world-but it's harder than ever to know what's authentic. Fortunately, as entrepreneur and marketer extraordinaire Joe Polish has discovered, there's a simple (though sometimes not easy) way out that begins with one question: "What's in it for them?"

In this witty and perceptive debut, a former editor at Psychology Today shows us how magical thinking makes life worth living. Psychologists have documented a litany of cognitive biases and explained their positive functions. Now, Matthew Hutson shows us that even the most hardcore skeptic indulges in magical thinking all the time - and it's crucial to our survival. Drawing on evolution, cognitive science, and neuroscience, Hutson shows us that magical thinking has been so useful to us that it's hardwired into our brains.

Story
Nothing seems more real than the minds of other people. When you consider what your boss is thinking or whether your spouse is happy, you are admitting them into the "mind club". It's easy to assume other humans can think and feel, but what about a cow, a computer, a corporation? What kinds of minds do they have? Daniel M. Wegner and Kurt Gray are award-winning psychologists who have discovered that minds - while incredibly important - are a matter of perception.

Story
Can there be freedom and free will in a deterministic world? Renowned philosopher Daniel Dennett emphatically answers "yes!" Using an array of provocative formulations, Dennett sets out to show how we alone among the animals have evolved minds that give us free will and morality. Weaving a richly detailed narrative, Dennett explains in a series of strikingly original arguments - drawing upon evolutionary biology, cognitive neuroscience, economics, and philosophy - that far from being an enemy of traditional explorations of freedom, morality, and meaning, the evolutionary perspective can be an indispensable ally.

Drawing on work from philosophy, anthropology, religious studies, psychology, economics, computer science, and biology, Davies offers a comprehensive explanation to show that in spite of the differences between the many things that we find compelling, they have similar effects on our minds and brains.

Despite our best attempts to embrace rational thought and reject superstition, we often find ourselves appealing to unseen forces that guide our destiny, wondering who might be watching us as we go about our lives, and imagining what might come after death. In this lively and masterfully argued new book, Jesse Bering unveils the psychological underpinnings of why we believe.

Useful overall
Early on the author makes some assumptions that I don't find true, so that threw me off while I was listening to the book. However, there are many useful sections about how to listen to facts or arguments others are putting forward. The perspective you will get on critical thinking is worthwhile, even if the rest of the book is a little simple.

Rambling
"What is the purpose of this book?" This is the question that I asked myself after listening to about 2/3 of it. I feel that it wanders off on a rambling tangent and doesn't deliver any strong actionable output. I think it delivers babble.ology rather than simple.ology

For the Simple Minds
This book would be useful to you if your life is a disorganized mess. The workbook and lessons could help to keep stay on track and get your life back on track. The messages are simple and clear. For those of you that have any common sense, you might find that this book insults your intelligence.

Excellent book but takes some effort to understand
I can't believe there are so many simple minded people that don't like this book. He said it was simple, but not easy. I guess they were looking for overly simple, and easy. This book is actually excellent if you listen carefully for the meaning behind the analogies he's using, rather than getting baffled by the examples and analogies he's using.
It actually cuts through a lot of BS to get to ways to help you THINK in a more scientific and systematized way, but first he does seem to ramble around with multiple examples and analogies, but if you pay attention you'll see he's showing you how to cut through Other people's BS, apply the Mental Principles of Science and Logic, avoid logical fallacies that distort our thinking and be more clear headed as to how to achieve your goals.
He would not be training multiple companies in the Fortune 500 group unless what he's teaching is actually worthwhile, as they don't waste money on things that don't work!!
Apparently a lot of others readers are undervaluing this because they haven't though hard enough about the complexities of how to think and the many mental traps that can cause you to have logical errors in thinking.
If you are smart, or intellectual, or scientific, you may be a little frustrated at first as to where he is going, but eventually you'll see the overall picture and have learned how to think more clearly. A well worthwhile book!

Don't Bother
I have read and listened to many books, especially those that help us tap into out true potential. This was by FAR the most difficult to muddle through. I thought it would never end. The delivery was so elementary and annoying. From the repeated "Bar Rat 1" and "Dave" conversations to the highly irritating transition and pause from one book/chapter to the next. For the first time ever, I disposed of a book. The potential was there, the message was there, the delivery - a nightmare. I do hope the author gives it another try – with consult.

don't bother
I barely managed to listen all the way through, but was able only because it was relatively short and I was sure there must be a point somewhere. There was some interesting information, though nothing new or earthshattering. I was disappointed by the lengthy attacks on metaphysics. I would rather hear someone tell me what they have, not what they think someone else doesn't. Overall I was quite disappointed.
