About this listen

"I shall baptize you, sir, and my baptism will burn your folly and flesh away!"

A year has passed since Auric Manteo descended into the haunted depths of a Djao ruin to return a lethal artifact, only to face down a bloodthirsty, imprisoned god. Now, his daughter, Agnes, comes to bring him back to the capital with promises of hidden secrets finally revealed.

But the city decays, poisonous disorder is rife, and whispered prophecy foretells of cataclysm and doom. Summoned by their no-longer human queen, Auric and Agnes are commanded to carry out an impossible task, one that can be accomplished only with the mysterious blade, Szaa’da’shaela, gifted to Auric on a lunatic's whim.

Can Auric and his daughter survive a journey fraught with blood, menace, and madness? And can they pay the price demanded by a being every bit as evil as the Aching God?

Incredible story by Shel and beautifully narrated by Vance

Simon Vance’s performance had me enthralled with the second installment of Mike Shel’s Iconoclast series. An engaging sequel to Aching God that kept me wanting more. Looking forward to listening to the final installment of the trilogy.

These books are intense!

Found this series off a random reddit thread searching for something new to dig into. when I saw there were audiobook versions I figured why not give it a go. So glad I did!

not as good as #1

it was a good book of course but it wasn't as scary as Aching god and without that then this is just another fantasy book

My Friend Agnes

I recently suffered the loss of my brother leaving me alone, abandoned. I feel as if I am Agnes; with her strength and courage to move forward from the beautiful sacrifice of father. Wondering now how the new queen with her young gifted soccer at her side will go forth. Mike Shell is an author to watch and read. A beautiful job he has done so far⚘️ Now to the next future of I'd like to call her, my friend, Agnes.. Thank you Audible..Natalie

Recommended!

I enjoyed Sin Eater, and the ending has me looking forward to the next book, but it felt almost like a different series than the first book. I didn't feel them tied together until the last couple chapters. That said I think it was still pretty solid on its own.

A few other reviews mentioned a predictable ending, and while it is true that you might predict a few things, none of that detracted from my enjoyment of the book.

The narration is pretty good, it makes for a pretty easy listen, but there are a few times when it feels like the wrong character voice was used, or they were too close to one another.
