About this listen

This is the audiobook for Sly Flourish's Fantastic Adventure, a book of 10 short adventures for the fifth edition of the world's most popular roleplaying game. This audiobook helps the listener bring these adventures into their head and is intended to be used along with the print copy of the book for use at the actual gaming table. Listening to these adventures helps prime your DM mind with the material you need to run the game at the table.

Each adventure in Sly Flourish's Fantastic Adventures is written for second to fifth level and is designed so GMs can drop them into any fantasy campaign world. Whether you run a homebrew setting or a published game world, these adventures will fit in as either main adventure hooks or side quests to be undertaken by the characters in your game.

Whether you're running a single-session adventure for a few friends or want to drop a short adventure into the middle of your longer campaign, Fantastic Adventures has you covered.

The material is fantastic and well executed but...

The material is fantastic and well executed, and I have already worked some of these adventures into my home game. However, I did think that there would be an accompanying PDF, and there is not. I had briefly purchased the grendleroot adventure, and that one did include a PDF for that one of the art assets. As an aside, I returned it because it was not the full PDF or even a summary transcript. Without any PDF to reference, it is very difficult to index the information for any adventure that you might be running. Fortunately for me, I received a hard copy of this for Christmas, and I was only purchasing this so that I could better absorb the information. As an adult with ADHD, listening to written information makes it much easier to get a deep understanding of the subject material. For me, this was an accessibility purchase.

It is hard to recommend this format because it does not include a reference document, and the chapters are not descriptively labelled in the app.

This is a fantastic resource for low level campaigns and adventures, and I was able to work a lot of interesting things into my home campaign. I would even say that you could just rob some of the ideas and NPCs to spice up an adventure that you are already running. 5/5 for the material itself, lower for the format. Props for writing adventure material that can work for everyone.

The Future of Adventure Formats!!

I have been a HUGE FAN of Sly Flourish and the Lazy Dungeon Master for many years, and his practical, elegant approach to game prep has allowed me to continue to pursue my roleplaying game hobby long after I thought I wouldn't have time anymore.

I work a full-time office job, have two small boys, a loving spouse (whom I would like to keep that way), and I also am going to college full time to finish my degree. That doesn't leave me a lot of time to DM a campaign of Dungeons & Dragons and I really thought I would have to leave it behind.

Thanks to the Way of the Lazy Dungeon Master, I've learned and adapted to streamlining my prep from days to an hour or so, thanks to preparing my game the same way as presented in Sly Flourish's Fantastic Adventures, I have time for all my obligations and still have time to play D&D once a week with my friends.

The adventures presented in this book are perfect for a short, episodic game, as they are very easy to skim and run after only a short time. They are centered around the small town of Whitesparrow, though they'd fit into any campaign setting, whether that's as a short side trek in your ongoing game, or a strung into a whole campaign of their own (I'd recommend picking up Sly Flourish's Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master for a bonus adventure set in Whitesparrow and a spiral campaign that ties it all together).

Rudy Basso does a great job, since I have to admit I was skeptical of an adventure book in an audio format, but it really works - especially for folks with a long commute like myself. I have a great memory for audio, and not so good for reading and retaining so this is wonderful.

I eagerly await every Sly Flourish release, and if you are looking for a way to perfect your game prep and distill it down to only those activities that most benefit your game, the adventures here will be a breath of fresh air. They bring to mind classic small adventures like Cult of the Reptile God, but they are presented in such an easy to understand and process form that they will have you pining for every other adventure book on your shelf to be presented the same way. I know I do!!

A Tremendous Time Saver

This book is incredible. A fantastic RPG supplement, that saves tremendous amounts of preparation time. Now having it as an audiobook cuts my prep time even further as I can prepare for my next game by listening in the car.

An even LAZIER way to prep!

I will definitely be using this bad boy to multitask and prep for upcoming D&D games. Laundry, workouts, commutes, and more are now also game prep time! The recording is clean and professional, the adventures are easy-to-run with great stories and twists, and this whole thing is great fun to listen to. Thanks, Rudy and Mike!

Fun Adventures for D&D 5e

The adventures in this book are great idea starters and in my opinion would be fun to run for either a new or advanced gaming group. I highly recommend this book to any DM.

Very fun adventures on an Audio Book

I wasn't sure how an audiobook version of this book would turn out, but was pleasantly surprised! Great for listening to in the car and gaining inspiration from.

a great 2nd of Sly Flourish's fantastic X series

I think this one might be slightly more practically useful then Sly flourish's fantastic locations, although I do wish that it came with scaled maps. one tiny complaint about an otherwise great performance, Rudy cannot pronounce scintillate. though it comes up less in this than in the last book. but everytime he says it it throws me out of the narration.
otherwise it's a great performance of a very useful book that has solid tie-ins to the previous book, both of which are super useful for a busy dungeon master. I have snipped bits and pieces from both for my ongoing campaign
