Publisher's summary

Five years ago, the Lazy Dungeon Master offered a simplifed approach for preparing fantasy RPGs with one clear directive: Prepare only what most benefits our games. This focus on lightweight preparation and improvisational preparation resonated with many GMs over the past five years.

But during that time and with the release of the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons, the world of fantasy roleplaying has changed and expanded. With five years of new systems and new ideas, all GMs have a wealth of experiences to share and explore to help us prepare and run great RPGs.

Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master builds off of the concepts of the well-received GM's guidebook Lazy Dungeon Master, updating that book with five years of new experiences, new approaches, and new observations of the way people prepare and run RPGs. This new book is a completely self-contained work, which does not require anyone to have previously heard the Lazy Dungeon Master.

Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master offers a new focused approach for preparing and running our roleplaying games. The book includes an eight-step guide for lightweight game preparation and is focused on how we prepare for our games, how we run our games, and how we think about our games.

Audio quality is terrible

Sounds like highly compressed audio with noticeable hiss.

For some moronic reason you need to type a minimum of 15 words. So here they are.

listened to it twice

I'm pretty busy and usually don't have time to work on my sessions nearly as much as I want to and after reading this book I feel a lot better about preparing less and getting more out of my normal day-to-day life while also being able to give a good experience to my players

No nonsense and good advice for all GMs

Perhaps the best thing about this book was that it didn’t promote any nonsense that a new GM wouldn’t know enough to avoid. Many of the tips and techniques were just “the way we played” in the late 70s and throughout the 1980s. Some of these tips codified behavior that was on display for me as a young D&D player, but might have been difficult to conjure again without better understanding how and why they worked then and will work again. Still, moreover, there were ideas here that were new to me - ideas and techniques that I will employ at least twice, to see how things go, now that I’ve come out of RPG retirement to teach and play with a new generation of dungeon delvers and lovers of magic and adventure.

Still good advice

The advice for dungeon masters found in this audibook is invaluable. I've found myself recommending tricks from this book to my friends who want to DM all the time.
However! The title of this book is very misleading. Being "lazy" means not doing work and avoiding responsibility. A truly lazy dungeon master is the absolute worst. There is no room for being lazy while preparing for a session, however there are ways of doing prep that I would call "smart". The tips and tricks in this book will help you be smart while prepping a session, not teach you how to be lazy. So it should really be titled "the clever dungeon master".

A fantastic resource for all GM's

this book has dramatically expanded and improved the way I prepare for games. the advice is sound and very practical. highly recommended. I also picked up a PDF to use as reference as the audio alone can be difficult to refer to during preparation

A refined and more effective book than the original in almost every way. Every gm regardless of experience or skill should get this book

Indispensable

Hosting a fantasy role playing game and taking on the responsibility of being the dungeon master can be a daunting task. Sly Flourish’s Return Of The Lazy Dungeon Master is an indispensable resource for getting the most out your preparation time and developing the ability to improvise at the table more effectively.
