Really great story and amazing narration!

WOW just fucking Wow… Honestly is it just me or does Joel’s voices keep getting better and better??
I Just finished listening to this so excuse me if I’m all exclamation marks and not enough coherent thought but omg I loved this story!!

First of all kudos to whoever designed the cover for the book, it’s beautiful, super eye catching, and it makes it stand out which is part of the reason I chose this book to listen to over others on my wish list.

Snow is an amazing character and I love that he’s such a good influence on Simon by just being his crazy self. He has a strong backbone and has definitely seen his share of horrible things and that’s before he was even on the streets. Christopher is a wonderful counterpart for Snow who deserves all the spoiling and love Christopher showers him with. I mean wouldn’t we all love to be spoiled by someone like Christopher Manos?? The supporting characters do an amazing job and I got invested in their happiness all the way from Simon and his adorableness to Bill and his unique charms.

The story is quick paced but not rushed and the action scenes are very entertaining without being confusing, you know exactly what’s happening. This story pulled me in from the beginning and had me entertained until the very end.

The performance: if it wasn’t already obvious from my earlier fan-girling I am in total awe of Joel Leslie’s vocal chords and if it was possible to marry a voice I would propose. This book in particular I was a big fan of him making Simon’s voice sound so child-like and then switching over to make Christopher’s voice so deep and sexy it was like listening to a full cast instead of one guy. This was my first time listening to Philip Alces and I got to say I’m a fan. I will for sure be checking out some of his other work. He made perfect Christopher Manos and I thoroughly enjoyed the alternating POV from each narrator.

10/10 would listen to again :)

Fantastic narration duo!

This is the first in series that is chocked full of action, bad guys, and bad guys who are not so ‘bad’ guys. This first book sets the whole series off introducing Snow, a street rat, and Christopher Manos, a big, scary (sexy!) crime boss. King crafts a story that is intense with intrigue and plot twists, and fills that spot inside that craves the more intimate joys of love. Leslie and Alces knock it out of the park with their Amazon narration. This book rocks!

Love Snow!

Is it wrong to refer to a mafia book as sweet? Because Snow Falling was very sweet, so much more than I expected- all thanks to Snow, who I adored!
It's definitely "mafia lite" and I'm not even mad about it- there was just enough violence in it for me. So if you're looking for something full on mafia- dark, gritty, graphic, you won't find it here.
It was a bit of insta-lust/love between Christopher and Snow, and I wasn't mad about that either. Snow needed someone who cared for him, and I liked how protective and caring Christopher was with him. And Snow brought some lightness and levity, not just into Christopher's life, but into the entire Manos family.
Simon was adorable, he's a child character done right!

Joel Leslie was wonderful as Snow- loved the way he voiced him and brought him to life. Philip Alces is a new to me narrator and I liked his portrayal of Christopher. They both made this a really enjoyable listen.

Good!

I really enjoyed this story. It was different from what I’ve been (mostly) listening to/reading these days, and it was interesting & kept you guessing what was going to happen next.
I really liked Snow’s character & loved his quickly he & Simon bonded. And I loved how his character defrosted Christopher’s cold exterior & released the soft & squishy, but still very alpha parts of his soul.

"A" rated review...

My Review:
Overall: 4.5
Performance: 4.75
Story: 4.5

Wow, what an amazing and creative debut novel. Huge kudos to Davidson King for knocking this one out of the ballpark. This book was incredible.

Snow lives on the streets. Everyone calls him Snow because of his pale-white complexion and hair. He comes upon a group of guys picking on a kid and steps in, offering whatever to get the guys to leave the kid alone. That kid just happens to be the nephew of one of the most notorious mob bosses around, Christopher. As a result, Snow is taken into Christopher's household.

I loved Snow. He's this great mix of streetwise, but maintains an incredible heart. He's kept his level of compassion and empathy even though he's had a hard, awful life the last few years, but isn't so naive as to ever wonder or doubt just how ruthless Christopher can be. Bravo to the author for maintaining that balance with both Christopher and Snow...without taking it too far in one direction or the other which could have really ruined the story.

The story was fantastic. While I wouldn't classify it as romantic suspense, it came darn close. There's always a threat hanging over Snow because the guy who had Christopher's nephew is pure evil and cannot sit by and let Snow go without paying.

Also, I really like this one in audio. There are two narrators which I tend not to like in m/m because their voices sound too different when they are reading the other character, but this one flowed perfectly. I loved these two narrators together.

All in all, I can definitely recommend this one. Now, I need to go read the other two books in the series, but the debate will be...read them now, or wait and hope they come out in audio.

Excellent story that should have only been read by Joel

As always Leslie’s incomparable narration sucked me in right off the bat, but unfortunately Alces narration was awkward and jarring. He tended to not breathe properly so he’d rush through sentences running out of breath and it constantly took me out of the story. I haven’t listened to anything else he’s narrated, but this book wasn’t for him.
