About this listen

All her life, Annie Prideaux has suffered through her brother's constant practical jokes. But Jake's last joke is one too many, she decides when he sets her up on a blind date with his friend Drew - neglecting to tell his straight sister one tiny detail: Her date is not a man but a lesbian.

Annie and Drew decide it's time to turn the tables on Jake by pretending to fall in love with each other.

At first glance, they have nothing in common. Disillusioned with love, Annie focuses on books, her cat, and her work as an accountant while Drew, more confident and outgoing, owns a dog and spends most of her time working in her beloved vineyard.

Only their common goal to take revenge on Jake unites them. But what starts as a table-turning game soon turns Annie's and Drew's lives upside down as the lines between pretending and reality begin to blur.

Something in the Wine is a story about love, friendship, and coming to terms with what it means to be yourself.

It was an enjoyable story as an audio. I don't know if I would have been able to read the book on my own. I don't read a lot of romance but I would definitely recommend to someone who does. I think an epilogue would hace been nice.

Good if you like romance...

Is it nobler for a vegetarian to suffer the slings and arrows of being ignored and devalued OR to take up arms against three of her relatives? Aye, there’s the rub (though it’s PG-13), what dreams will come, now or later. once our heroine shuffles off her current drab routine in this sapphic romance? It’s been a minute since I’ve been inside the brain of someone desperately trying to figure out who they are and as enlightenment dawns, just as desperately trying to ignore their own revelations! But yes, some women come out at five and some at 55, and what some people need and who they want changes over time.

One leading lady is well-versed in WLM and the other is straight, by default, and inexperienced. The author does a great job of pairing two people at opposite ends of the spectrum and builds a genuine friendship and attraction between them. For some people, the idea of real passion and enthralling romance is a fairy tale; an equation that has never added up. Much of what others easily embrace is a mystery! For some people, seeing themselves anew in another’s eyes can change all of that and telling that story makes a unique and interesting romance! The character arc for our ingenue is especially noteworthy. It’s not only dramatic, it’s outright inspirational!

This IS a book you can take home to Mama if she’s open-minded enough to listen (also true for a friend or ally) and you can listen together without turning red due to mature content. This novel is a very informative treatise on what some women go through when coming out later in life and a good example of how to be a non-judgmental friend or partner throughout that process! Highly recommend.

Vegetarian, vag———n or both- that is the question!

Romance with a touch humor. Jae is one of my favorite authors. This would also make a great movie.

Loved it!

Jae does a great job with lesbian romances and this one is another of her sweet toaster oven stories.

There’s zero spice but the kisses are sweet.

I loved Something in the Wine. Excellent coming of age(?) story. Or maybe coming into your own. I don't know why I never reviewed this before. I've read the print edition several times and know the audio by heart. Laura Bannister does an excellent job with the narration.

Great!

I read a ton of the romances and will have to say this was good one. I found myself looking forward to reading and catching up on what was going to happen next. Yes it was a bit predictable but if you like wine and romance you will enjoy this delightful rom-com.

Good romantic comedy that warms your heart.

As are all stories written by Jae, great characters within a wonderful story. Loved it.

Great story

Wonderful books like this prove you DO NOT need sex scenes throughout the book or at all in order to write a beautiful romantic story of two people falling in love. While the book is not billed as a romantic comedy I did find some humor in it.

Well done Jae.

Very enjoyable
