Workaholic Detective Aiden Carlisle isn't looking for love - and certainly not at the law-enforcement seminar she reluctantly agreed to attend. But the first lecturer is not at all what she expected.

Psychologist Dawn Kinsley has just found her place in life. After a failed relationship with a police officer, she has sworn never to get involved with another cop again, but she feels a connection to Aiden from the very first moment.

Can Aiden keep herself from crossing the line when a brutal crime threatens to keep them apart before they've even gotten together?

Contains mature themes.

To take such a sensitive topic and spin it into an amazing story is why Jea is in my top 10 authors. This book was very intense as one of the MC is raped right at the beginning of the book which made it a tough read at times but if you can push past it it is worth it. I ended up invested in Dawn’s healing journey and how Aiden was so patient with her. It was well written with likable characters intertwined in a heartfelt storyline.

Amazing book

I don’t normally write reviews, but I just had to with this book. A lot of other reviews said it dragged at the end but I couldn’t disagree more. The chapters after the trial showed them growing together as a couple and individuals. It showed the real side of life and the obstacles faced; having them just jump into bed and fall in love would have been a disservice to the subject matter. So well written, I love this author and her style. Never has 14 hours flown by so quickly, a must read.

Amazing!

While this didn't have a racing plot it was a sometimes dark, sometimes cute story. It was worth my time.

Good Story

This was actually the first Jae book I ever read (almost a decade ago) so at the time I had no idea I was starting a reading journey with such an amazing author. This book was not an easy first Jae read, since one of the main characters is a rape survivor, but I often recommend this book because I believe it to be one of the best written sapphic fiction books about this tough subject.

Years ago, I purchased the second book in the series and couldn’t wait to visit all these characters again, Jae makes lovable secondary characters too, but honestly forgot about the sequel Next of Kin, until both books popped up on Audible and I could not resist. I really enjoyed listening to Conflict of Interest. It was such a different experience (than reading) but the story held up as did my good feelings and praise for it. Abby Craden’s narration was spot on, including her voice for the mains being just what I was expecting.

This book won’t be everyone cup of tea. Make sure to check that it won’t be triggering for you before you get it. If you think you can read/listen then this is one of Jae’s more powerful books that are in her back catalog. I’m glad I listened and I can’t wait to listen to Next of Kin.

Difficult subject but so well written.

very good story hard to listen to sometimes but needs to be told everyone needs to listen to it and think about the effect that rape has on the victim

great story

Great story & characters, but damn. Talk about a slow burn. It was downright frustrating at times. This story could've been half as long & just as good. Abby Craden was great, as usual.

I really liked this story but....

This was definitely an intense book that could be majorly triggering to some. It depicts rape and the path to healing afterwards. It was good to see the Dawn and Aiden’s beginning though.

Very genuine and realistic love story. I have yet to find a lesbian author that puts as much effort into character development as Jae does. I have become obsessed ever since discovering her and have read almost 5 of her books now in two weeks.

Great Character + Relationship Building
