About this listen

Whether we call it the inner critic, superego, or just plain nag, most of us have a "judge within" who's constantly on our case. A comprehensive guide to understanding how the inner critic works, this book offers practical, positive suggestions for breaking free of it. Using straightforward language and examples from everyday life, Byron Brown shows: Where the inner judge came from. How it operates. Why it trips us up. Why we believe we need it. How to develop awareness of it. How to disengage from it. The "soul qualities" we can develop to weaken its influence. Each chapter begins with an episode of the "Frank and Sue story", dramatically illustrating how the inner critic works; each chapter ends with a simple exercise designed to help the listener move along the path of self-discovery.

Detailed

The “couple” in the story seems extra; at first. But once the details come into play, you can connect and understand your Judge.

repetitive but helpfully so

I found the reader's voice a little irritating and the writing repetitive but also found that repetitiveness helpful to fully internalizing the learning. helpful book.

Loved this book.

This book has so much information on personal judges and judgment. It helped me discover the connection between my own personal judgments and the shame I was feeling. I highly recommend this book to anyone searching for inner peace from judgment and shame.

Great Read!

Very insightful. This book has been life changing for me. It made me realize how I had been operating on an unconscious level while being controlled by my judge. I want to thank the author for the lifeline that brought my soul into the forefront of my existence.

So wonderful!!!

I am a Diamond Approach student and this presentation of "the Work" has been life changing. Mr. Brown has done an amazing job of translating the teachings in such a way that I gained understanding that had eluded me for the 7 years I've been a student. Thank you!!

Normally equals health

Your Mind is like Water.
When it gets agitated, it becomes difficult to see.
But if you allow it to settle, the answer becomes clear.

Powerful. Solutions to our problems our instantly paired. Managing behaviors isn't the same as changing how we relate to our relationship to the self, mind, emotions, body which are all connected as one system.

Astounding, brilliant....

Would you consider the audio edition of Soul Without Shame to be better than the print version?

I wouldn't consider the print version because the way the brain interprets sound is different from the way it interprets words. Overthinking, rationalizing, judging--all these things can be softened by allowing yourself to sit back and listen.

Who was your favorite character and why?

N/A

What does Fajer Al-Kaisi bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice brings depth, authority.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There a thousand things that moved me about this book. To name one would be impossible.

Any additional comments?

For anyone who has ever listened to Tolle's Power of Know--this IS the flashlight that cuts through the fog.
