Publisher's summary

My life was ordinary, but never boring. That is, until a colossal tower landed smack-dab in the middle of the city.

What should have followed was mass panic and hysteria, but I never got to that part. Why? Simple. I was taken along with 99,999 other people from Earth and dropped onto an unknown world.

Strange beings appeared before us—floating, featureless figures that call themselves demi-gods. They ruled this place, this fantastical world called Gaea. The reason why they took us? Not so simple. We'd supposedly been selected to show that Earth was worth saving from an upcoming cataclysmic event. So, no pressure there.

Gaea is a world entirely controlled by the System, a sarcastic and level-hungry intelligence that granted everyone magical powers, strange classes based on personality or luck, monsters to fight and even loot. It forces us to compete in "events", but no one can really tell us what the endgame is. Climbing the tower and finding out exactly what Gaea is, who created it, and why, could bring us closer to the truth behind our abduction and the fate of our world.

My name is Devin Cain. Join me as I wield Muramasa, a cursed katana that hungers for blood and souls, and a class created to curse players and monsters to death. What can go wrong?

Main Character

His sword can be Muramasa or Masamune. I thought it common knowledge that Masamune is stronger and so wouldn’t he at least explore that part of his sword?

terrible plot

There seemed to be no possible way for the main character's rival to benefit from their actions. Started with overpowered ability with no counter, procedes to ruin humanity and weaken everyone, but not gain a commensurate personal power. MC is supposed to be in his 30's but acts like a 12 year old in all respects. MC summons creatures that are supposed to reflect his personality... they act as though they are 6 making fart jokes and snickering about it.

Don’t listen to most of these bad reviews

If you’re looking for a good time and another series you’re interested in continuing, then read this. It’s a four star for some reason, but it doesn’t deserve it and if you like well written LITRPGs then try it out. While it’s not a perfect book it’s a very fun read, and I’m not one to leave good reviews on every trashy LITRPG.

nonsensical mechanics and a forced narrative

I was only able to get almost halfway through this audiobook before I just had to drop it. The pacing is sporadic, the narrative feels extremely forced and doesn't progress in a natural or realistic way, and the game mechanics are unbalanced and nonsensical. Everything from interpersonal interactions to the major events of the novel seem to be a rush to get to the next bullet point on the author's self insert wish fulfillment outline rather than actually having a well thought-out story. the karma mechanics only really seem to exist (and in a very nonsensical way) to railroad the story in a direction where the heroically written and well meaning MC is forced to mass murder a bunch of people so his karma can tank enough to force him into being an edge lord with a cursed sword and undead summons.

TLDR:
Everything about this audiobook/novel feels forced and rushed with little thought to pacing nor trying to sustain a reasonable suspension of disbelief.

Tower Climber + Post Apocalypse

I wasn't sure what I was getting into when I picked this book up, but I'm glad I did. The world is huge with a ton of depth. I feel like book one just scratches the surface. I can't wait to check out the next one.
