About this listen

Jon Porter works with his ex-wife and ex-best friend in the sleepy vacation town of Stone Lake. He toils to keep their construction company afloat while the exes in his life enjoy their honeymoon.

Jon meets Morgan when a flock of turkeys and a curvy mountain road aligns with one-in-a-million timing. Despite their attraction, her engagement, and the ire of her family, the pair embarks on a platonic friendship. As their relationship strengthens, they share secrets, but Morgan holds her most important secret tight to her chest, where it beats like a ticking time bomb.

It’s not a matter of if, but when.

A story you remember

A very emotional book. You will laugh, get angry, get disgusted and cry. I did all of it.
Performance and story I rated a five. Overall a four.
I would have given it a five star but the scene with mother and boyfriend at the dinner table was a bit to much. Reading the book it might not have come across so strong but listening to it been drawn out got on my nerve. Almost stopped listening after that chapter. Next day decided to continue and I'm glad I did. You really get the know the various characters, some of them you will love others you hate. If you're an older person you probably feel you need to have a motherly or fatherly advice talk to Jon because everything feels so real. It a very satisfying ending both sad and happy. Nice job Phil I highly recommend this book. To readers that are more sensitive to sexual references and F-words try to get past those areas because the book is well worth reading to the end. If you are a person that does not have any tolerance then this is definitely not the book for you.

this is an amazing story

This story takes you to a place where some wouldn't want to go. A man who fell in love with a woman who has a dark past. A past he doesn't know about. A man who loves her so much. He gives up every thing to clear her name.

A Riveting Story

Phil M Williams has written a story that touched my heart because of the emotiveness of the central characters. Jon Porter was working to keep his business afloat while dealing with his ex-wife's marriage to his best friend. Morgan has secrets of her own. They met through an automobile accident and thus began their friendship. I enjoyed this story although some of the scenes were uncomfortable to listen to through an audiobook. Tristan Wright's and Sarah Grace Wright's dual narrations were excellent and added to the story's emotional appeal. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

Stone Lake: Surprise after intrigue after surprise

My first Phil F. Williams' audio book, Stone Lake, won't be my last. This was a different type of a story for me. Although it certainly has suspense and mystery, it doesn't have dead bodies floating in Stone Lake, no spies, yet there is tension that builds from the beginning. When reading this fine story which is enhanced by outstanding readers, keep an open mind, let it percolate or fester in your mind, but let it. You love Stone Lake even more!

Good audio narration -- characters & story meh

While I enjoyed the narrators, I thought the characters development was lacking at times. John's acceptance of emotional and verbal abuse was cringe-worthy. His strength in defending others, no matter what, didn't ring true. But he survived and everybody fell into their predictable roles by the end -- the evil didn't win.

Exciting Rollercoaster

I'll try not to give any spoilers ~
Before you sit down grab your drink of choice, a big box of tissues, and some snacks.
I cried, laughed. hated, cried tears of happiness and lots of tears of sorrow. The story is well laid out and there's a surprise ending. I HIGHLY recommend this book !

A Search for Justice

Stone Lake is a story of intrigue. Jon Porter has his own set of problems with a best friend/business partner who isn't a friend and an ex-wife that is still in the picture. The only thing Jon takes pride in is his business and his work until he met Morgan in a car accident.

Morgan is running away from her problems. A family and fiance that is treating her like a child and who are judgemental to her. Until Jon, no one treated her with respect or supported her. The only problem is that Morgan is running from a darker secret that Jon may or may not save her from.

Stone Lake is emotional to where Jon and Morgan stands. Listeners/Readers are going to laugh at Chad and Heather, love and hope that Jon and Morgan have an HEA ending, and get angry at the circumstances surrounding them.

I love the story until the ending. The climax is in the middle of of the story. Although the conflict is resolved, the ending just leave the listeners/readers wondering what will happen to Jon next.

The narrators Sarah Grace Wright and Tristan Wright do an excellent performance of Jon and Morgan. I also love their narration of the Hispanic employees who worked for Jon's company.

This is an excellent story of how quick society to judge without gathering all the facts and how justice doesn't always deliver without the right connection.

I was given this audiobook by the author. I have decided to volunteer in writing an unbiased review of the book. I was not compensated or influenced in any way of writing this review of the book.

Another great Phil Williams book

What did you like about this audiobook?

This is another great Phil Williams book with a strong lead character, lots of humor, emotion and some sadness. It's a love story with a sad, but hopeful ending. I know that may sound misleading, but no spoilers from me.

Do you have any additional comments?

The best part, for me, was Jon's humor. He was confronted with a bunch of people trying to put him down and he handled it in a way that really made me smile. I don't think I'd have that kind of courage or confidence faced with the same situation. I wasn't ready for this story to end. I need to know what happens next. I've already imagined it, but I'm sure Phil Williams could bring it to life in an even better way.

Touching, Thoughtful Read

What a touching book Stone Lake is! Phil M. Williams has a way of quickly engaging his reader in the story and the main characters. I listened to this audiobook in one “sitting.” Some readers may read the book just for pleasure. There’s nothing wrong with that. However, for those who want to think about things, there are many issues subtlety presented: bullying, assumptions, grieving, parenthood, employers’ responsibilities to name a few. I am grateful for having the opportunity to read (listen) to this novel.
