About this listen
- Prologue, Such Novel Notions
What has induced Elizabeth Bennet to do something so shocking just three weeks after her vehement and cruel rejection of this same man’s offer of marriage in Hunsford?
While she is still reeling from the indisputable truths disclosed in the letter Mr. Darcy handed to her the morning after the proposal, Miss de Bourgh waylays her and begs her for help. Elizabeth is to deliver a letter to Lord Fitzwilliam, the executor of her father’s will. However, the Earl must receive the letter before her twenty-seventh birthday just five days away, or else her mother, Lady Catherine, would usurp her birthright as the rightful mistress of Rosings. Thus begins the adventure. Along the way, the two young ladies become fast friends, and Miss de Bourgh, freed from the talons of her despotic mother and using her own unique brand of problem-solving acumen, handily dispatches villains, turns the Bennet sisters into heiresses, and changes the lives of many others whose paths intersect hers to the satisfaction of all – well, perhaps not the villains. What is the secret to her success? It is all about the novels she loves. Elizabeth, through her joint efforts with Mr. Darcy to assist Anne, comes to see the gentleman in a new light. With her impetuous nature, it is inevitable that she should do something audacious to attain her happily ever after.
In this engaging and heart-warming Regency tale with the whole cast of our beloved characters in an original plot, the author strives to keep the characters as true to canon as possible excepting Anne de Bourgh, who, though retaining the frail and colorless exterior as in canon, is anything but. The novels she favors are not the Gothic variety so often used in the plots of stories of and about that period – Jane Austen used such a plot device in Northanger Abbey. Let us just say that she chooses her reading materials well. The reader does not need to have read these novels which were, in fact, renowned during that time period for depicting life vividly and accurately. Anne’s explanations of her actions according to her understanding of the novels are quite self-evident.
Just like the original Pride and Prejudice, this story is relatively low angst but has its fair share of drama and twists, not to mention eventful rides in phaetons.

Story
This is yet another sweet, clean, low-angst Pride and Prejudice Variation. This book of 64,000 words takes Elizabeth and Darcy out of their usual circumstances and meeting places. All of the usual villains are part of the story but minimized significantly. If you enjoy a light-hearted version of Our Dear Couple’s road to Happily Ever After, this may be a book for you. Excerpt: Mr. Thomas Bennet massaged his temples as his five-day-old daughter again woke and cried in hungry complaint. He and the wet nurse Mrs. Lindsay had been on the road for two days with the infant, and his nerves had ...

Elizabeth Bennet is living a lie. She’s known since she was fifteen that she isn't truly a Bennet, but who is she? Are the people and places that appear in her dreams just a sign of her active imagination, or are they memories of her true family? Could the stories she'd told Jane when they were children not be stories at all?

Story
This novel of 67,000 words is a sweet and clean variation of Pride and Prejudice written from a Christian perspective. The characters meet as children and grow in understanding of themselves and each other over the period of Elizabeth at age five until her marriage. There are no super-villains to wreak havoc on our heroes or heroines in this low-angst retelling. Except: Summer 1796 - On a mild summer day in Hertfordshire, Lady Anne Darcy sat in the shade of the terrace overlooking the generous expanse of manicured lawn behind their leased estate. Netherfield Park was an agreeable location ...

Story
I much prefer the sharpest criticism of a single intelligent man to the thoughtless approval of the masses. ELIZABETH BENNET is determined that she will put a stop to her mother’s plans to marry off the eldest Bennet daughter to Mr. Collins, the Longbourn heir, but a man that Mr. Bennet considers an annoying dimwit. Hence, Elizabeth disguises herself as Jane and repeats her vows to the supercilious rector as if she is her sister, thereby voiding the nuptials and saving Jane from a life of drudgery. Yet, even the “best laid plans” can often go awry. FITZWILLIAM DARCY is desperate to ...

Mr. Bennet seizes the opportunity, ensuring his family's support and providing for their future. When the militia arrives in Meryton, they find a Bennet family much changed from what it had been in the past, for the youngest Bennets are better behaved and not out, and the eldest must deal with new and unwanted attention. With two proposals in one day, which offer will Miss Elizabeth Bennet choose? Marriage to the first of the two men would subject her to misery of the acutest kind. Marriage to the other would be merely for the sake of avoiding a scandal. Either would serve the interests of Elizabeth's family, but what of her own wishes? Will Elizabeth reject both gentlemen's offers of marriage, especially when one of them is Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy? Will she dare to refuse such a man?

Story
Meet Randi Burnett—she’s brilliant, she’s beautiful, and she works for the bride. Missing groom? Intoxicated in-laws? Crying ring-bearer? You name it, she wrangles it. Too bad her personal life isn’t thriving like her side gig as a bridesmaid for hire. Recently dumped, Randi throws herself into her biggest challenge yet when she’s hired as a maid of honor and pretend best friend for an ice queen bride. There’s just one problem—the best man is infuriating, overprotective, and anti-marriage.

Ryder, Garrett, Kenzo, and Diesel - The Vipers. Their deals are as sordid as their business, and their reputation is enough to bring a grown man to his knees, forcing him to beg for mercy. They are not people you mess with, yet my dad did. The old man ran up a debt with them and then sold me to cover his losses. Yes, sold me. They own me now. I’m theirs in every sense of the word. But I’ve never been meek and compliant.

Story
The Bennet family of Longbourn, Hertfordshire, had long been known to its neighbours as exceptionally learned though eccentric, but was tolerated because the first Bennets settled there more than four hundred years before, just after the great plague. Both the grandfather and father of the master, Mr. Thomas Bennet, married blue-stocking wives from the Continent. These circumstances had a profound effect on Mrs. Bennet and her five daughters. Because of this broader worldview, the Bennet family was more aware of, and affected by some historical events of the period far outside the twenty-...

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that while a man in possession of a fortune may be in want of a wife, there may be ladies who do not reciprocate. Such was the lot of five young women near the town of Meryton.

Interesting Variation. VV not Terrible
I dislike Virtual Voice and tend to skip past all audiobooks using it, but unlike most VV books, this one had good reviews so I tried it. Don’t know if the AI has improved since VV was first introduced, but in this book it wasn’t as distracting, aggravating or intolerable as my initial experience. I still dislike the lack of inflection, warmth etc. as well as mispronunciations. The story was interesting enough but I found my attention wandering.

Surprised
This was a much better story than I expected. It would have been much better with a human narrator that could pronounce Rosings correctly and tell the difference between other words that shouldn’t be pronounced phonetically in English because they have a French base.

Familiar characters doing unfamiliar things
Awesome. Ann Debourgh is the star in this book. She becomes a strong determined woman. I love what happens to Caroline Bingley, who is a thorn in Elizabeth's side. Wickham also gets a good whacking, which he richly deserves. My least favorite character is Lydia. There is a lot of action and some great scenes in this book.. Fantastic writing and story telling talent exhibited by Eselle Teays. I highly recommend this book for JFF fans as well as fans of good stories.

Spectacular Story (AI seemed secondary & good storytelling)!
An exceptional performance by AI….But the Authors tale was the extraordinary draw for me. Just fascinating bring in Ann DeBerg, her Mother’s ill-will, Mr Collins’ accident, Bingley’s character Chg & the enormous Darcy/Bennet growth & love. Even Wickham taken care of w/o violence and (5) sisters become everything we, the readers wish for. So admire this work & FYI; a marathon Listen! Wouldn’t miss for the World & shall be a 2nd read/audio….

Anne comes into her own. Lizzy and Darcy equally repent and mend their ways. Jane gets a stallion, not a puppy. Lydia grows up. Charlotte finds love. Even Wickham reforms, but not before causing trouble. Adventure and action without melodrama. Well done.
