About this listen

Summoners are born, not made.

For Bran of Ealdor, this is the one thing stopping him from becoming a member of the legendary warriors known as summoners. They are gods among men who can call monsters into battle to fight alongside them.

Mages, Rangers, Beastmasters, Protectors, Hunters, and Lancers. These are the six classes of summoners.

None of which Bran can become.

Until one day, when a griffin crash lands into the stable, a summoner riding on top of the beast.

That day, everything changes for Bran. He is thrust into a world of magical creatures and their masters, and he soon discovers just how unique he is among them. But being special puts a target on his back. Some of the most powerful summoners in the world would do anything to discover just what makes him so special.

Summoner’s Shadow is a LitRPG series that occurs in a medieval fantasy world. Bonding with monsters grants a summoner special abilities, dictated by the monster type and their class. Monsters can be leveled up, augmented, and evolved.

I really love the almost adult rated pokemon theme. Monsters battling Monsters. Not much more to say

Once again DB King has done it again and completely shattered my expectations of this book (and probably the next one to come). The book itself was extremely intriguing to listen to due to the fact that all the ideas that he used in creating this book came full circle. The idea's that DB King used in this book worked really well and I'm glad he went for writing this series despite being so pessimistic & hesitant about it. But yeah, I think it was well worth trying it out. The introductions to the characters were done in a nice and timely manner. So thumbs up for that. I also felt like the story and action of the book was set to a steady pace for the audience to follow along by and not get lost trying to figure out what's going on. Both, the narrator and narrator did a fantastic job on this audiobook and I look forward to the next Summoner's Shadow.

5/5 stars.

The only thing that I really had a problem with is that the audiobook is a bit short, but hopefully the next one is a tad longer.

First time I heard this narrator before and i thought he did a great job. Characters had different voices. The female voices sounded fine and didn't pull me out of the story.

Story was pretty cool. Chosen one type story where the MC is special. The power system is really cool and listening to all the evolution of the creatures was interesting. Can't wait to listen to more summons the MC will get and how he will evolve along with his special abilities. The story had a steady if not fast pace and it felt like the MC was always progressing.

Pretty cool story and good narrator

I took a chance on this one since it’s from DB King and I’ve liked some of the other series. I was really happy I did, it was a great listen and I’m very excited for more to come.

I suspect I’ll probably be too impatient and read the next one that was just released to Kindle. Still anxious to listen as I think this series will have some replay value.

Very enjoyable listen - anxious for more

I usually don't right reviews but I've seen two form a Joe and Joseph and honestly I don't get the hate. yes he is a veteran but that was with the spear why in the world would it mean he should be a magic god I think he learned how to use it fairly well. then there is the other review the author stated multiple times that he had some archery training (not to mention I'm sure magic plays a role with his development) tldr it's good ignore the haters

it's good a unique take on magic

This is an awesome book. You follow the journey of Bran, late bloomer Summoner. He get his long wish of becoming a Summoner. The story is very well written with enjoyable characters. The system is great. Great twist in how humans don't have powers, the monsters do. Get to tame monsters and feels a lot like an adult Pokémon (got me hooked off that alone). Can't wait for second book!

Freaking Awesome

DB King crafted a progression series which starts out as a coming-of-magic story, where the MC had thought he was passed by as a summoner only to find out in his mid 20s that he not only was a summoner but a very unique one. The MC backstory is one of being a lowly military spearman who fought bravely in a recent war but afterward only found employment as a stable hand. Once he came into his power, he was mentored by one of the strongest summoner in the nation.

The story pacing moves briskly forward with the only drawback being too much narrative with him continuing to lament on his past tragic military experience and his need to hurry up to catch up with other summoners.

Austin Rising's performance was very well done.

A unique fantasy take
