About this listen

Half witch. Half light elf. Welcome by neither.

Alice is alone and desperate to fit in at her aunt's coven when she embarks on a dubious quest for cave nettle.

Dark elf.

Decker is a leader running out of time. Isolated from the main cave system due to a hex making the water in his cave toxic, even the war his clan demands won't save them. The two must put aside centuries-old survival instincts and work together to save lives and preserve the fragile treaty between the coven and clan.

Great story

I really enjoyed this story. It’s well written with twists and turns you won’t see coming. Alice is a young untrained witch that forms an unlikely alliance with Decker, a dark elf. Jasper is an Oracle who helps train Alice so she can fix the water her coven has tainted. Witches and elves, magic and spells make this a great story

Joan Dukore did a good job with the narration. She moved between characters easily bringing the story to life

Tainted Waters

I was given this free review copy audiobook by the narrator, courtesy of Audiobook Boom, at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I really enjoyed this book! Alice was sent to gather nettle in a dark cave by someone from her aunt’s coven. Little did she know, she was sent to a very dangerous quest in the home of dark elves who would like to kill her. She is only spared because the Oracle, Jasper, sees her and the leader, Decker, healing the tainted waters of the cave. Of course it isn’t an easy task. Alice stays very busy trying to stay alive in this dark world.
Joan Dukore was a great narrator for this book. I enjoyed the ease she moved between characters, making each one unique.

A very original fantasy novel

I'm not sure what I expected with this novel, but it sure wasn't what I read. From page one it just felt different, one of a kind and unpredictable. It turned out to be just that.

The main character, Alice, a young witch, is sent on a simple errand by her coven to find a cave dwelling plant. Except this simple errand turns out to be a setup, a suicide mission as she finds herself surrounded by angry elves. Try as she might to explain away what happened, there is no way around it, this was no accident. Someone at the coven deliberately sent her to her death. However, things don't turn out quite that way. Alice convinces the elves that she can fix their water that was hexed. But since witches hexed it, they clearly feel they can't trust her. A truly character driven piece.

I won't give away any more of the story than that. I will say that the book has one surprising twist after another and many of the characters you spend most of the book trying to decide if they are good or bad. Most, you decide, are in fact gray, with many, many layers. The only one who is completely unquestionable is Alice who goes from a sweet, innocent trapped in a snare, to a brave hero, unafraid to face any challenge.

An excellent book, well written and well thought out. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

An added note narrator is spot on. She disappears into the background and lets all of the characters speak in their true voice. Very masterfully done.

OK

I liked the discription of the book and it helps that it is my type of book. The first thing I have to mention is the narrator, I don't believe that this narrator was best for this book. She voiced the females well but the males she didn't do to good. Also I didn't feel certain feeling the characters had, so I did not feel anything for them. However, I believe this is also partly due to the book as well, for example, when the main character sneaked into a room and we are told that any moment someone will come in, I did not feel any of it. This is due to the fact that it is slowed down with information or long dialogue, so the feeling of urgency is lost and when something happens you don't feel it. Usually in a book there is a mixture of fast and slow pace, in this book (in my opioion) it was all slow. Which is a shame because I liked the plot itself, I thought it was a very good with interesting characters but the pace for me bought it down a lot.
Others might like it more then I did.
There is violence but no sexual content or profanity.

Wow

I got this ARC via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. This book was confusing from beginning to end. A good confusing because it was so well done by the narrator. Alice and the White rabbit, elves, witches, mages, undercover agents, spelled water, half human, half elf, and so many other strange things including a betrayal all combined to make this book a wow read. Loyalty tested, eating creatures for rituals, creating events in peoples minds that makes them loony all were included. Although it is described as a dark paranormal to me it is really not but is a good tale.

Tainted Waters

I really enjoyed listening to this audio, it is a different take on elves and witches (and others). I look forward to reading the next book in the series. Alice is a witch I would enjoy hearing more of.

A thrilling tale!

I found myself thoroughly engrossed with Lucretia's tale because I love and live for all things supernatural and paranormal. The story revolves around the halfling witch Alice going into a cave, hunting for nettles. Unbeknownst to her, the cave is filled with dark elves that despises witches for good reasons.
She soon discovers that she's a part of a prophecy to undo a terrible her placed on their water supply but it doesn't mean Alice is safe from the dark elves. This story has many plot twists and character of that will have you guessing who's truly friend or for for Alice. A great read that I highly recommend.

WHOA.. UNIQUE AND INTRIGUING TALE....

There's a little bit of everything for the paranormal fantasy fan, wow what a story! I found myself interested and thought the story and narration were great :) Elves and witches and little bit of in between, it's a twisted but intriguing tale, would recommend it to all fans of the genre :) :)
