About this listen

Everything I know is a lie.

I'm an ordinary mortal girl. Lord Irrik is a depraved dragon shifter. King Irdelron is an immortal tyrant. In the disease ridden land of Verald, life is mapped out much like the established rings of our kingdom. Everyone has a role.... Me? I'll be uselessly serving potato stew for the rest of my life because I can't make anything grow.

But starvation brews rebellion. When the king strikes, I'm captured by Lord Irrik. Instantly, I'm embroiled in a deadly game. One where I'm desperate to understand the rules. Because nothing makes sense anymore. Now, I'm not only fighting for my life...but a love could be the key to my freedom.

What if the truth means you're not who - or what - you thought you were?

Fans of dark fantasy, dragons, intrigue, and romance will devour this story. Due to thematic elements, this series is recommended for mature YA and up.

I was very hesitant about listening to this book due to a few of the reviews, but I'm so glad that I did! I can't wait to listen to the next one!

Glad I Did!

Stop what you're doing and get this book! I'm going to blame Audible for this addiction and go into withdrawal if Book 2 doesn't come out soon. I couldn't put it down. It finished and now what? Kelly St. Clare and Raye Wayner thank you. SIerra Kline was perfect! ( 10 stars perfect) OK, did I mention I need Book 2?

I need more!

The story was amazing and unlike anything I've read/listened to so far. It was unique and interesting and the narration only helped tie all of that together perfectly. (Thank you, Sierra Kline, truly!)

Loved the narration and the story

I have been reading books all my life, and I fell deeply in love with this book and the caracters. I am buying book 2 right now actually! The narrator was great and easy to understand. (I’m norwegian) This book and narrator makes you forget about the outside world :)

I love this series!

The story was overall entertaining due to the main characters lack of maturity, but that also made this book periodically painful to get through. worth reading, but not worth highly recommending.

So much potential, saved by narrator

I’ve read the the series and loved it. I couldn’t stand the audio version. The narrator made Ryn sound like she was talking while traveling on a bumpy road. So much voice quavering. No really the quavering never stopped. Well unless Irrick was speaking, then things got worse.

Irrick’s voice sounded like a stereotype of a hated teacher; nasally, prim, and clipped. (He’s a dragon for goodness sake...how could you read his voice like that!)

I hung in there because of the story and kept hoping the narrator would settle in and capture the essence of the characters, but alas, that was not to be.

If you haven’t read the books, please don’t start with the audio version. It’s a really good story don’t allow this version to ruin it for you.

Horrible Narration

I love the story and I like how there's male and female voices to go with the different roles but there is errors in words that they say and there's even echoes or multiple voices at the same time with words that are read.

great book!

This was really a sad, sad story about a girl that really loses everything. It was well written and had some really good moments but really, really dark. I did not like that she basicly lost everything. Her Mother, her best friend, her own freedom. I am glad the bad guy died in the end but still, she lost everything..... I am hoping in book II that there is a reason behind the whole thing. Still....it was something to listen to.

Dark, Dark And Darker yet!
