About this listen

Over the past ten years the numbers of wives who have affairs has grown dramatically. Recent surveys suggest by as much as 50 percent. Yet, in all the acres of space devoted to male infidelity, so far this has been a largely untouched subject. In this guide, Carol Botwin - advice columnist, therapist and author - rushes to help rather than to condemn. Drawing from 600 interviews and case histories - with both husbands and wives - Botwin examines causes, initial attractions, affairs in progress, endings and aftermaths. Throughout she offers her experienced advice and solutions on how to deal with a lover, children, and husband after the affair has dealt a devastating blow to the marriage. Carol Botwin, a leading sexologist and columnist, brings together her research and interviews with more than four hundred women.

Tempted Women is loaded with candid, fascinating stories of women giving in to instant sexual attractions, having affairs with co-workers, and carrying on emotional liaisons that last decades. Women tell - in their own words - how their misdirected intentions and runaway temptation led to incredibly passionate extra-marital sex and painful consequences.

Botwin outlines ways to foresee whether a woman will have an affair and breaks down affairs into predictable stages. She asks questions such as, "Are affairs without sex really possible?" and "What do you do about the man you can't forget?" and answers them. She explains the causes of infidelity, and the solutions. Combining the support of an empathetic confidante and Botwin's trademark practical advice, Tempted Women is a friend to reach out to for the millions of women who are having an affair - and for the innumerable women who think about it.

Carol Botwin is a well-known sexologist and has been a columnist for Woman and New Woman magazines. She has written for Ladies' Home Journal, Woman's Day, and Redbook. Her articles have also appeared in Cosmopolitan, Glamour, The New York Times Magazine, and USA Today. Ms. Botwin is the author of five other books including Men Who Can't Be Faithful and Is There Sex After Marriage?

Editorial reviews

When discussing infidelity, more often than not we're talking about a man's extramarital affair. In recent times, however, the number of women having affairs is steadily growing. In this heavily researched and well-organized audiobook, Carol Botwin looks at some of the major causes of this trend. Pulling from hundreds of interviews and case studies, Botwin presents a measured and thoughtful look at how to address this problem, while making sure she is providing help rather than piling on the guilt. Performed by the engaging veteran Jorjeana Marie, this audiobook is a great resource for those struggling with fidelity.

I'm the husband / victim

As a husband that has been deeply hurt by his wife of 19 years. The first10 chapters were hard to hear. For a victim this book will help you to see & understand why your wife stepped out of the marriage.

As for the wife having the affair. This book is helpful for you. The writer gives many true stories of women in your shoes. Which will help you to realize that you are not alone in your feelings. The book does & does not justify your actions. There are many good points that can help repair your marriage before you step out. There are many tips to help repair & save your marriage after being caught.

I ask you ladies as a victim please walk away from your affairs don't even start. Even though this book may help save your marriage. I believe you will never fully repair the marriage to the purity it once was. There will always be that blemish of a broken trust.

I was not blameless in my wife's affair. I accept my failures has a husband. I've never stepped out of our marriage. Still I was not perfect either.

Sorry so long.
E.R.P.

I wouldn't recommend to any women I know.

I felt a misogynistic undertone for most of this book. There was only one chapter that (briefly) explored the possibility that in today's society women could have the same reasons for cheating as men do. When male infidelity was talked about it was made to be no big deal. Their cheating was only physical and affairs could be walked away from easily. While a woman's infidelity was most likely caused by a psychological disorder (no joke). I don't think this was a balanced or modern take on female sexuality at all.
