An affair: It can rob a couple of their relationship, their happiness, their very identity. And yet this extremely common human experience is so poorly understood. Adultery has existed since marriage was invented, and so, too, the prohibition against it - in fact it has a tenacity that marriage can only envy. Iconic couples' therapist and best-selling author of Mating in Captivity Esther Perel returns with a groundbreaking and provocative look at infidelity, arguing for a more nuanced and less judgmental conversation about our transgressions.

Story
Conventional wisdom says that "it takes two" to turn a troubled marriage around and that both partners must have a shared commitment to change. So when couples can't agree on how - or whether - to make their marriage better, many give up or settle for a less-than-satisfying marriage (or think the only way out is divorce). Fortunately, there is an alternative. It Takes One to Tango is a groundbreaking guide that shows how one determined partner can spark lasting, significant change in a marriage.

Superheroes don't start from glorious beginnings. Their origins are almost always marked by traumatic events that leave them helpless and scared. Batman witnessed his parents' murder. Superman was sent away from his dying planet with no one to guide him as he grew up. Orphaned Catwoman was forced to steal food to survive on the streets of Gotham. What makes these superheroes super is their determination to not be defined by helplessness. They embrace their origins, their flaws, and their mistakes and strive every day to become the best versions of themselves.

If you are struggling with a betrayal, LISTEN!
This book has been extremely helpful. I never thought I could regain trust once betrayed, but this book has given me a completely different perspective. I am so thankful to have found it when I was in such a bad place. It is a good balance between real life stories and counseling. If you are hurt and betrayed, or if you betrayed someone and cannot fully understand why that person is so hurt, listen to this book. I felt like it was my support for the way I was feeling, and it gave me hope for a trusting future.

This book was so easy to listen to and absorb the information on my hour long commute to work each day. I feel like I learned so much about my own trust issues and how to enable and heal trust in relationships. I feel like I can be a better partner after this book, now I just need to get my partner to listen to it! :) I am tempted to buy the paper version so I can have it for quick reference. I would recommend this book to anyone who has experienced a betrayal or is dealing with any sort of trust issue with their partner. Many relationship problems can be rooted with trust issues and as she says in the book, love is nothing without trust.
