About this listen

One call. That’s all it took to change everything. The sweet voice on the other end of the line delivered a blow I never saw coming. Fighting for our country’s freedom and staring death in the eye was nothing compared to this news.

History has one hell of a way repeating itself. Kate Wilson’s voice didn’t waver once as she turned my worst nightmare into a reality, and her words weaved a cruel poetic justice.

I hadn’t been back home in over two years. Once I pulled into the one-horse town, I was greeted by the gorgeous blonde.

Kate extended her hand and offered me a warm smile. The connection was made. The innocent beauty has no idea that she just flipped my life upside down.

She’d unearthed secrets that can never be buried.

Great Story & Listen🎧 Beautiful & Heartfelt!

This is a great, heartfelt story, it grabbed my attention and my heart and captivated both from start to end. This is Max and Kate’s story, Max was introduced in the 1st book in the series “Yesterday is Gone”. He was a good kid who came from a terrible home situation. His life improved when Jessie and Jules took him in. Max is an adult now and after catching his girlfriend with drugs and then cheating on him he decides to enlist to serve the country and leaves the small town behind. Five years later he receives a call that will change his life forever. Kate is a new teacher in town, she is kind hearted, looks out for her students and goes above and beyond to help them. I loved how caring she is and how awesome she was with Finn. I thought she and Max were great together and for each other. The author takes you in to the past giving you glimpses of what Max had to endure in his childhood, it is just heartbreaking. And I love how the author shows just one act of kindness can make all the difference, in Max’s life it started with Papa Jack, then Jessie and it is what Kate did for Finn. I highly recommend this book, it contains topics that are realistic and very moving, there is also drama, angst, twists and some suspenseful moments that will take you to the edge of your seat. It was nice to see the characters from the 1st book too. HJ Bellus, thank you for another great story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

I listened to the Audible edition, Heather Edwards & Mark Whalbeck did a great job narrating and performing the voices of all the characters. They brought the characters to life, gave each their own voice and personality. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen🎧

Searching for more

This story takes you on a wild emotional rollercoaster ride. Max has been through so many trials for his young age. I think the beginning was a little confusing, as the author told Max's story through flashbacks of high school and college. Also, I was surprised that Max didn't seem to even attempt to help Allie with her problem, since they were together for so long. I loved that Kate was such an amazing teacher and wasn't afraid to fight for her kids. When Max and Kate meet and spend time with each other, you can almost feel the pull between them. Yes, it was pretty much instalove, but I was mad about them getting together. The ending felt kind of rushed and the "suspense" was like BAM and it's over. I enjoyed the epilogues, they made me super happy :)! I felt the narration was by Heather Edwards & Mark Whalbeck, was just ok.

loved this story

Alli was Max's life in high school. When his mom died, at age of 15, his coach adopted him. His world crashed when he found Alli with his teammate , and using drugs. He left for service. he vowed never to return to his hometown, until he received a phone call from Kate. That phone call changed his life forever. I enjoyed listening to this story narrated by Heather Edwards and Mark Whalbeck.

Second Generation

Loved that this is a well blended story following up with the second generation from Jess and Jules! Poor Max has a run of crappy luck until Jess steps in and fills the void!
Narration lacked some emotion and at times the female had a hollow sound to the background noise... kinda bothersome at some

Something was missing

While I loved that this story is the Son of the couple from the previous book, and we get a look at Jesse and Jules. I dislike how the author does not mark the flash backs or expressess how much time passed while I have a mild Idea by the age of the kids confirmation would have been helpful.

This however didn't hold me back from having to finish this story I just needed to know what had happend with Max, and I loved the ending with its HEA, this is a stand alone but if like me you lisned to book one it'll be a treat to find this single dad we meet as a teen in the previous story.

That was Yesterday

In this book we get to see how Max has done after losing his mom. After Kate contacts Max about his son he never knew he had. He has to fight his demons and return home. Lots of ups and downs emotions. Did enjoy Kate and Max getting their HEA.

Beautiful emotional book about family

This was a great book and a follow on to the prior book in the series, Yesterday is Gone. You don't have to read the prior book to understand what is happening but since the other couple features pretty heavily in this book, it would probably add to your enjoyment

While I really liked the story I do think that it was a little confusing during the first few chapters (maybe it would be less so if I was reading the book. However, in the beginning, the past and present intertwined a bit as Max relived his horrible childhood prior to becoming the foster son of Jules and Jessie, the characters from Yesterday is Gone.) It might have been best if she noted when the scene was taking place. and the narrator read that so that we were aware.

It’s heartbreaking how much Finn suffered because his mother is addicted to drugs and an awful mother (and an awful human being, as demonstrated throughout the book). In fact, Max was also a victim of a poor childhood, with a bad mother, and it showcases his strength that he were able to overcome his pasts to become successful. However, how they suffered made their repaired relationship wonderful. There is some angst, with some mean characters but the resolution was well done and it was a heartwarming story.

The relationship between Max and Kate was sweet. It was pretty much insta-love with both feeling appreciation and love for each other and Finn. At the end, there was a difficult part with a bit of violence but at the end of the story, the love is definitely felt between the couple, the couple and Finn, and the whole family as a whole. I loved the 2 epilogues as well. I hope that the follow up book is about Cody getting his HEA!

I received this book from Audiobook Obsession and this is my unbiased review. The narrators were great at telling the story and playing each character perfectly. I usually find many narrators get a little too cutesy when playing kids but these two did well and they added to the story emotionally. I enjoyed listening. #AudiobookObsessionReviewer

Had me in tears

This book had me in tears. It’s such a lovely storyline of a child’s resilience at such a young age. As sad as it is this book shows that it can be turned around and have a HEA. Great narration.

Excellent second book

This is the second book I've read/listened to by HJ Bellus. This book was much better. I really enjoyed Max and Kate's story. I loved ALL the characters this time. My heart broke for Max and Finn. Kate was so good for them. Again, it was a perfect length for a road trip. I will be looking for book three.

Heather Edwards and Mark Whalbeck were excellent narrators. The book rolled like a movie in my head. Great performances!
