About this listen

In his world, he was the last remaining alchemist, one of the few survivors living amidst the ruins of a once-great civilization.

Refusing to give up on life, but seeing that nothing could save his home, he challenged himself to find a way out of such an inhospitable place.

After years of dedicated research, he devised a ritual to transport himself to another world. But the outcome was far from anticipated. Instead of mere displacement, he underwent a rebirth.

He ended up in a new body, in a new world, surrounded by new threats lurking around every corner. And they primarily manifested themselves in the form of other people. Aristocrats of the ancient empire who fight for supremacy, demons capable of healing the most terrible wounds, and Walkers who have the ability to teleport anywhere they wished.

But a true master of alchemy does not allow himself to be perturbed. Edgar's intelligence, skill, and alchemic knowledge are still with him, and the one who has once accomplished the impossible won't go down without a fight, regardless of the circumstances.

Great first story, got me hooked.

This was a great first story and glad there are at least four others ready to go.

Great story idea, but could be better

This story was a really good idea and the narrator does an excellent job with what he has, but there are some poor translation choices or perhaps editing choices that hurt the story overall. The story and the narrator's performance were good enough that I want to know what happens in book 2, but I wish they would edit the text a little better and have a native speaker check the translation.

Excellent book

Excellent story, though I think they spent a little too much time on the villains perspective. I know it was all to set up for future books, but still. The main character story was excellent, and this is the first time I have ever seen a western alchemist properly represented in story. Alchemist out of Weston history was not just someone who worked with chemicals. Western alchemist were ones that made golems, magic mirrors and philosopher stones. They were the medieval equivalent to mad scientist or mad geniuses, if you like.

Everything

To be fair I was looking for an alchemy story. Well I found one, though the main skill is alchemy it had a wonderful tale of rebirth, use of knowledge, and ability to adapt and a will to strive for normalcy because of prior situations. I think my favorite part is (SPOILER) him not being truly overpowered, not striving for power or trying to anything but normal. The fact that he had such a hard life before and wanting a normal existence and willingly go to school to learn more and enjoy and even though he was an older person in his past life he didn’t let it affect his love life and finding someone his body age.

Awesome

A competen and strong mc but not totally overpowered and honestly I was surprised that this story was more slice of life than anything else and I completely enjoyed that

It could be better.

Theres some magic some fight scenes and action. Instead of potions and stuff its rune/seals magic. And it starts pretty good then it ends with him going to some kind of academy. For me im not going foward past this book, it was a bit of a let down after what i thought this book would be. I still dont understand what a demon is, i get an immortal is an individual who got powers from the magical beast but what makes a demon the same or different why call them 2 different thing if they are the same. Mc has good grasp of his powers and is an adult in a childs body but after that im wondering why is he being a student and stuff. I would think that he would have other things to do. So for the book to end with him going to an academy is where i draw the line, its just not for me.

Not Great... Not Alchemy

The narration was choppy.
The beginning is irrelevant.
The alchemy is not alchemy, if anything it's runic enchanting
There is hardly any magic
The political stuff is hardly relevant and possibly time skipping

Not great, too short, disjointed story line

Initial reviews for this book seemed positive but the story is pretty disjointed. It jumps around quite a bit with not a lot of context so for a first book it was difficult to get a sense of world building. Would have been good to have a better understanding of the "magic" the MC possessed before entering this world, as well as how it operates with those who live there. Most books in this genre are at least twice as long so I may have been inclined to get the second book in the series if there was more content to build from in the first one.

Nonsense

This is the stereotypical Russian novel, The Russians follow a template of writing, first they must make the MC suffer, break them down and slowly very slowly build them up all at the same time making the reader/listener deal with the nonsense. This book is the same, the MC is not likeable, just some teenager doing teenage things at one point. Pretty pointless book.
