About this listen

In a world on the brink, survival isn’t just a game—it’s the only game. But when only one soul holds all the cards, they get to play however they want.

Argrave, the royal bastard of House Vasquer, went into his magic apprenticeship cruel and awkward, yet left it with a neat dignity and an acerbic wit. But beneath the veneer of self-assurance, the body’s new soul is wrestling with the dread of existence in a reality that once existed only in the pages of fantasy.

In the blink of an eye, a wiki editor’s deep and somewhat unhealthy understanding of a game becomes useful, usable knowledge when he inexplicably replaces the once-cruel royal bastard. Before he can start to push his frail body to use his deep understanding of the lore to handle the imminent apocalypse, or go off to stop an invasion, there’s a more personal task he needs to handle first. His cousin has a knife in her hand, and death in her eyes.

Great story - Bad acting

Luke’s voice is very poor on this one. The story is very good overall despite the acting.

loved it

The main character in this was a breath of fresh air for this genre. The story was fun and characters well fleshed out. I can't wait for book 2 😁

Unexpectedly Delightful

It threw me off a bit at first with how it opened up and the way the author writes. After the first 30 min however I was hooked and couldn’t stop listening. I can’t wait to see how this is going to go.

PAINFUL ACTING by narrator

Fun story even with dialogue simplistic in places. I’ve never left a review before but had to say the narrator was maddening. His ’acting’ was beyond lame, goofy, and painful.

Hilarious Start

Solid start to what looks to be a wide open world and series. The MC thinks he is stuck in a game world that he is very intimate with, but stuck as one of the lesser characters that often gets overlooked. Now as this background character he must stop numerous battles, civil wars, and insurrections. He does so with gusto all while causing everyone to look right while he absconds left.

Witty banter, and a fun world make this a story worth trying.

Good book with a unique story

I really like how the author brings the main character into the story. The way that the main character is given an advantage over others in the book is a unique approach. I would have liked to see more background details regarding the protagonist and their traits. Why they are so obsessed about washing their hands and is that something that comes from their world or the one they find themselves in?

A different way to address Isekai

I like how Argrave's arrival has been handled. It's almost an avoidance but it stops the story from getting bogged down with tales and stories of his past. I honestly don't know if I have seen it handled that way before.

A Great Story and the Narration Gets Better

The premise for the story is amazing and I loved all the books, me being up to the most recent in the audiobook collection. here's to hoping it gets new audiobooks! the MC is very intelligent and behaves like someone who was in love with the game world as much as he was would in terms of his knowledge on things like lore and the timeline of the world hes now found himself in.

the biggest complaint I hear so far is the narration for the MC in this first book is really annoying. which to be fair it is. BUT in the future books his nasally attitude is toned down to being essentially nonexistent and also I tend to enjoy it because it reminds me of Jim Carry which is what I think the guy was going for when he made it so props to that at least. thinking of the MC being played by Jim Carry kind of makes it from insufferable to it actually being pretty fucking funny making it only annoying 10% of the time. so your welcome if that helps to find enjoyment out of it. overall also imagine galimon being voiced by the guy who plays kratos. that also makes it much more enjoyable.
