About this listen

The enemy of your enemy is…your lover?

A peasant farm girl has no place consorting with feuding lords, yet that's exactly what Jocelyn Cutler sets out to do. Now Jocelyn finds herself trapped between the tyrannical Lord Kerr, and the dangerous rogue, Sir Trent Wescott. When her younger brother is sentenced to death for rebelling against Lord Kerr, Jocelyn in desperation appeals to his rival, Sir Trent Wescott. Rumors mark Trent a highwayman, a murderer, and - worse for Jocelyn - a heartbreaker. But he's the only one who can save her brother's life. The price? The only thing a beautiful peasant girl has to offer - herself.

Unaccustomed to his new role as protector, Trent is shocked to find Jocelyn closer to a dutiful wife than a greedy mistress. But the life they're building together hangs in the balance when an ancient crime resurrects from the past. Jocelyn and Trent must decide what to forgive, what to fight for, and how far they're willing to go for the sake of duty, family, and love.

Set in the rolling hillsides of England during the Restoration, The Braeswood Tapestry is a web of danger, scandal, and passion delivered with Robyn Carr's trademark zest for life.

GREAT STORY-POOR READ

THIS READER READS AT 60 WORDS A MINUTE. THIS BOOK WOULD BE A COUPLE OF HOURS LONGER IF SHE READ WITH THE NORMAL SPEED. THE STORY IS TYPICAL CARR, GREAT.

Narrators Voice

Is there anything you would change about this book?

From the beiginning of the book I found the start boring but as she read on to chapter 3 the story became a bit more interesting. The reader voice is not suitable for this book. for Joslyn character it's okay, but for the men - it is not. It sounds as if t he men are weak and whinney.

Would you be willing to try another one of Alison Larkin’s performances?

Not for reading men characters. Not at all. When I first started listening, I had stopped listening twice, before I decided to listen a bit more to see if the book became interesting. I do not care for her voice for this book. She may do better with young childrens books.

Could you see The Braeswood Tapestry being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

no

A whole lot of not much!!

Any additional comments?

Story could have been better but it moves sooooo slowly that it was very hard for me to listen to it. I almost wished I had the book so that I could have skip over all the pages of nothingness. Before completing the book, it is every author’s duty to stop and think, does this point add anything to the story? When it does not, then my recommendation to the author is to eliminate that section and put the readers out of their misery of having to read it. So much background was given on everyone in the story that I wanted to scream. This is a book I should have opted to listen to other reviewers for. Do not waist your credit. The entire story is summed up in the summery. No exciting details are added beyond that.

Expected More

I really pondered what to say about this book because I normally love Robyn Carr books. I liked the main characters and the story was interesting enough.....it just didn't keep my attention. Not sure if it was the story itself, the narration, or the combination of both. I've listened to books read by Alison Larkin before that were good but this one was a bit distracting.

Overall, I'm disappointed because I love this author and I expected more.

Not Robyn Carr's Finest, but worth the read.

I thought the hero a little too crass. Although he became a man to love, he never really apologized to his lady for earlier misdeeds. One death too many, but a happy ending.

Not Carr's best.....

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone looking for LESS romance might enjoy this book because although there was some....it was too little too late and seriously lacking!

What was most disappointing about Robyn Carr’s story?

The lack of romance. Romance was implied somewhere in the background but I just couldn't get into it. It wasn't developed well at all. It was almost like readers were just told ....okay now there is romance going on....now back to the boring other parts.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator read like an elderly lady. Her female voices were tolerable, but the men sounded like OLD FAT NOBLES...not young handsome strapping men. Maybe that was my biggest problem - I couldn't get past the picture the narration painted in my mind!

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Braeswood Tapestry?

I might have forced a total re write! The scenes at court seemed a waste of time...the king didn't even truly need to be in the book other than mentioning him.

Any additional comments?

Not worth a credit...Carr has some great books out there...By Right of Arms is wonderful...read her other stuff...pass on Braeswood. I listened in 2x speed for most of the book.
