Publisher's summary

Why do we say we have zero tolerance for bullying, but adult society is rife with it and it is an epidemic among children?

Because the injuries that all forms of bullying and abuse do to brains are invisible. We ignore them, fail to heal them, and they become cyclical and systemic.

Bullying and abuse are at the source of much misery in our lives. Because we are not taught about our brains, let alone how much they are impacted by bullying and abuse, we do not have a way to avoid this misery, heal our scars, or restore our health. In The Bullied Brain, listeners learn about the evidence doctors, psychiatrists, neuropsychologists and neuroscientists have gathered, that shows the harm done by bullying and abuse to your brain, and how you can be empowered to protect yourself and all others. Not only is it critically important to discover how much your mental health is contingent on what has sculpted and shaped the world inside your head, it is also the first step in learning ways to recover.

While your brain is vulnerable to bullying and abuse, it is at the same time remarkably adept at repairing all kinds of traumas and injuries. The first part of The Bullied Brain outlines what the research shows bullying and abuse do to your brain. The second part of the book, "The Stronger Brain" provides case studies of adults and children who have undergone focused training to heal their neurological scars and restore their health. These accessible and practical lessons can be integrated into your life. Strengthening your brain acts as an effective antidote to the bullying and abuse that are rampant in society.

Foreword by Dr. Michael Merzenich, "the father of neuroplasticity," and he also contributes his knowledge, insights, and research in The Bullied Brain to help show you how to empower your brain to fulfill its power and potential.

Amazing read

I absolutely loved it! It is both eye-opening and hopeful. Dr. Fraser does a fantastic job incorporating neuroscience into this book as well as vulnerability. It’s a beautiful and inspiring read.

The hope for bullied brains.

Narrated a little too dramatically. Personally felt that took away from the content when it could have added to the content if toned down just a bit.

The Bullied Brain

I LOVED this book. Everyone needs to read it. We all suffer, or know of someone, who has gone through trauma. What we need to know is that we CAN heal and this book gives action steps of how to. The bullied brain is a gift to the world. Thank you!

A must read for all who care about children

Excellent information regarding a difficult subject. So many of us have been bullied without knowing how to heal our brains and hearts. Jennifer lays out the issues, the science, the stories, and brings hope for healing.

Excellent

Had already helped many of my colleagues and myself. Many of fellow educators are already implementing practices and techniques to ensure that their children are not exposed,or suffering under this “bullied” environment.

Good. But not what I was hoping for

All in all, this is a great self-help book with some good points. I grabbed it after hearing the author on a podcast, was excited to hear what she had to say about brains. But it took too long to explain how to help one’s brain; which I will try as soon as I can remember. Then it gave some relatively basic ideas on how to fix society as a whole. Which are things that need to happen anyway. I sympathize with where the author is coming from, and agree society needs to change. And to be fair, we all want a book that will give us step by step instructions on how to solve the problems of society, but ultimately we all have a fatal flaw in our ability to do so: time and support. Few people’s schedules line up, long enough to actually make the powers that be, because we voted them there, actually do their jobs and fix things. There is potential here. But this is not a blueprint, just a step in the blueprint

Terrible Narration. Bait and Switch. Anecdotal.

The sample had a different narrator than the rest of the book. The author reads so slow and pauses so long that I gradually increased the speed rate to 2.5 and just gave up. Painfully stilted narration. Like a robot malfunctioning. I have listened to similar scientific authors on fast speed because sometimes the substance makes up for the delivery. Not this time. The chapters are anecdotal, at best, and the science she sites from another author’s work. Wish I would have bought that one instead. Save your money.

Enlightening

Some of the points seemed a little far fetched but overall pretty good information and can be helpful for anyone.
