About this listen

The Draasin Lord is captured, but a greater threat remains.

Now that Tolan knows the secret of the Draasin Lord, he recognizes more needs to be done. As a student, he’s not in a position to be able to do more, but as a master shaper, he’d be free to travel as he feels necessary.

When another attack targets the academy, Tolan knows his unique abilities might make him the only shaper able to respond.

He must survive crossing the waste, but even if he does, how can he stop the chaos where none can shape the elements and where no elementals can survive?

I really enjoy this series and have found myself listening for hours, but in this one I started to notice a lot of repetitive phrases. At times it seemed contradictory and unclear, as well as a bit drawn out. I still liked it enough to get the next book. I think the narrator does a good job.

On edge but also repetitive

Excellent story but it makes it hard to listen to with his repeating mantras . The story get a little monotonous when OP second guesses his self after knowing something, then contradicts it drives me nuts I’m hoping to make it through the last book.. I get so driven mad I shut it off for a while to cool down!!!!

Love the story but hate being strung along by author!!

These books are not bad but primary char seems to learn something and use it well then at times forget that knowledge or question it because it moves the story.. Lots of repeating information. If not for fast forward and 1.5x speed.. this book would be painful to listen too. The story is good and most of the time the char's are good but lots of small annoying issues.

Not a bad book but a but a few annoying issues

I first thought this was a copy of other stories .but as I listened ,it captivated me so much that as soon as I finish one book I would go to the next I needed to know what will happen next .good work can't fail

captivating

I have no idea if DK Holmberg ever reads reviews. Truth is that can be like opening a can of worms on your laptop. However, if you do, PLEASE get a better editor. When you have a hang up phrase that is obvious on an audio book, it’s bad. And honey, “in doing so” is yours. Often, you use it when it’s absolutely unnecessary. If I were your editor, I’d be globally searching those puppies and marking them just so you can see how bad it is. Sometimes you’ve obviously got more than one per paragraph, and then consecutive paragraphs and sentences. Yikes! Now this is not a criticism of the story or writing. Those are superb. This is the job of an editor, and yours is obviously punching the clock but sleeping through work. Time for a better editor. Also, a good content editor would have noticed storyline contradictions and you’ve got two glaring ones between this book and the previous ones. But the characters are great, the premise is intriguing, and the pacing is perfect. As a writer, that’s spot on work. Also, you picked a good narrator.

Fantastic story, but please get a new editor

I absolutely fell in love with this series. I didn't even expect to as I got it on a whim and figured I'd give it a shot. I'm huge into fantasy and love how DK Holmberg shaped (heh heh pun intended) this world the series takes place in as well as the stories of each of the characters. I'm thoroughly excited to see what the next books bring!

Amazing Series!

loved the book and the series so for what i will say it was a little slow to get to the point of everything in my opinion which don't get me wrong you don't want it to get there to fast but faster then what it did

good book

repetitive. I struggled to always pay attention because it was so repetitive, reminding us of who was who, and why he did this, etc. I'm not sure I really listened to the final book. but I was interested in the story. the story itself, minus all the extra words, was very interesting!

series too repetative.

Great narration, but the story seemed to lack in at least 2 areas:

1. There was soooo much explanation it got frustrating. After a sentence or two of conversation with another person, there was way too much introspection. I'd wish the author would just get on with the story.
2. Way too many times there were conflicting events or some sudden enlightenment that would "save the day.". Tolan experienced more power than ever... but he didn't have enough to do what he's done multiple times before, but then he actually could perform the tasks, so why even say he struggled?! Tolan has no idea what to do, but suddenly he has a new ability that enables him to save the day.

The thing is, this could be a great story/concept if it didn't elaborate so much & the author not suddenly pick some saving idea out of nowhere.

Great narration, the story... ehhhh.
