About this listen

It's a great time to be a beer drinker, but also the most confusing, thanks to the dizzying array of available draft beers. Expert Joshua M. Bernstein comes to the rescue with The Complete Beer Course, demystifying brews and breaking down the elements that make beer's flavor spin into distinctively different and delicious directions. Structured around a series of easy-to-follow classes, his course hops from lagers and pilsners to hazy wheat beers, Belgian-style abbey and Trappist ales, aromatic pale ales and bitter IPAs, roasty stouts, barrel-aged brews, belly-warming barley wines, and mouth-puckering sour ales. There is even a class on international beer styles and another on pairing beer with food and starting your own beer cellar. Through suggested, targeted tastings, you'll learn when to drink down - and when to dump those beers down a drain.

Needs accompanying pdf

Deeply flawed as audiobook due to its lack of accompanying pdf. Some info not fully accurate but would be ok if it had the pdf wit it.

Clashing Narration/Writing Style

*UPDATE: Going through the book a 2nd time, I think my first review was too harsh. The book has a lot of good info, but I still wish the narration was better. Overall I bumped everything up a star."

Josuah love to be discriptive, which is great, but it does not vibe with the narration. The narrator sounds like like a 1920 speakeasy owner who continued aging but never left that time period.

The narrorator mispronounces a lot of words like Cicerone (Sis-er-ohn not Sis-er-oh-ney), Trub (Troob not Trub), and povolone (the cheese...)

At times, it feel like the Narrator is just reading beer lables back to back. The actual book is solid, but at times it does not translate well to audiobook format.

Good info, but needs a PDF

Lots of great information about beer history and styles. But the many lists would be much more useful in a document to refer back to later for anyone really interested in the details.

If you want to expand your knowledge of beer in a casual way, the audiobook might be good for you. If you’re serious about the finer details— or just don’t want to keep backing up to make note of the numerous lists of suggested beers— you may be better off with the Kindle or print version.
