Publisher's summary

No one ever said being a Renegade was easy.

When Jace Hughes accepts a job to capture and transport a wanted criminal, he doesn’t expect any problems. But when a family of smugglers assassinate his mark right before his eyes, he’s left to pick up the pieces and salvage what he can of the job.

Unfortunately, the real trouble has only just begun. Turns out, the mark has powerful family, and they just happen to be the galaxy’s most famous Renegade. Now, Jace is forced to face off against one of his own in a battle for his life, but our boy didn’t come this far to get gunned down and fail.

Jace Hughes is a Renegade, and he’ll do everything it takes to keep it that way.

More fun with The Renegade

Not as good as Renegade Star but a fun story and finally we got the story behind the cloak of the ship. Still if it wasn't for Luke Daniels this woud not be as good he kind of translate the characters so you cant stop listening.

Took awhile to get but satisfying ending.

The story at first seem point less but it made sense at the end. Lockwood was consumed by pride and lost because of it. What annoyed me were the loud breaths Luke would take for half the book. Besides that I've enjoyed this origin series.

A little formulaic

JN Chaney prose is still very good but this book in the series bears too many similarities to book 1 to garner the same appeal than that of book 1. Essentially, Jace begrudgingly takes on some noobs in order to survive the pursuit of an overpowering enemy. The various encounters were written well but, again, they had a similar feel to how they were handled. As far as his companions, their backstories were a bit simplistic and lacked enough personal development to make them all that interesting.

Luke Daniels' performance is top-notch as expected and I especially liked his Jack Nicholson-like imitation used for one of his youthful companions.

So much fun

Great book and great narration. I always look forward to Renegade books or anything else Chaney is attached to. Next up is Wayward Galaxy.

Please sir, can I have another?

Seriously, love these books! Hope there's more, but this ends close to where Renegade Star begins, so if we never get another, then that's still okay. Thanks for the fun!

JN Chaney does it again

Honestly, I don't know how he does it. Chaney writes so well and releases books so frequently that I can hardly believe he's human. Add Luke Daniels to the mix and you've got yourself one of the best scifi characters of all time: Jace Hughes.

While most people probably found Jace through the Renegade Star series, the Deal covers Jace's time before he ever met Lex or Abigail. This book, along with the first prequel, The Renegade, shows his rise as one of the galaxy's most capable thieves. He's started to make a name for himself and this book shows exactly how he becomes the man we meet in Renegade Star. Seeing Jace talk with Fratley is especially fun, since I know what happens to these two in the main series. I sincerely hope we get more prequels in the future, but if not, I'm still extremely satisfied. This book, along with the first one, stands alone as a self-contained adventure that both adds to the lore and shows off new characters.

If you like Jace Hughes, you'll love this story. If you haven't had the pleasure of experiencing this saga, the Renegade and the Deal are a great place to start, but don't forget to listen to the main series. It's a universe to get lost in and I'm glad I found it. Thanks, JN.

Another Amazing JN Chaney book.

I don't how He does it but I have yet to hear a JN Chaney book that I don't like. Then you add in Luke Daniels as the reader and you have a match made in heaven.
