About this listen

Thirty floors of nightmare fueled action. An ex-cop with nothing left to lose.

After losing his job and family, Flint Reed finds himself in the middle of a terrorist attack. With nothing but his wits and experience as a former Union police officer, he must do everything he can to stay alive.

As he soon discovers, however, there are also hostages, and no one is coming to save them.

All hope falls to Flint.

But as he fights to navigate the building, the real answers begin to unravel. What are the terrorists really after, and why are they so intent on getting into the vault?

Experience the beginning of the Resonant Son series. If you're a fan of Die Hard, Renegade Star, or the Last Reaper, you'll love this epic sci-fi thrill ride.

Hold on with both hands!

Another good one from Chaney. Just when you think the action couldn’t get any more intense it ramps up. The main character is flawed but hey who isn’t. I’ve already acquired the next book.

Horrible cover art

I almost did not read this book just because of the cover that makes it look like a cheap romance novel, it isn’t. I gave it a shot because of Mark Boyett. Not the best book I have read this year but it did entertain me

hell yes

I think " Die Hard " meets scifi is a good start to describing this book. it is that and a whole lot more. loved it.

Chaney never disappoints

I love all the books in the Renegade Universe, but I especially like that you can read the different series in whatever order you like. This one is no exception. The audio narration is especially riveting. Mark Boyett is a masterclass of talent and he pulls off the rugged ex-cop with some serious style. I couldn't stop listening and finished this in record time!

Started 3 stars but climbed to 3.5 — almost a YA book with language and implied sex . ....😱

The narrator is great. The pair of authors usually surprising good, but I think I will hold the series judgement as a “wait and see.”
There are incongruities in the book. Neutron bombs are desired to destroy the life in their vicinity — not destroy buildings and infrastructure which is the exact opposite of what is proposed by the authors here. And some of the knife fight scenes are just unbelievable. However to say more might be a spoiler. All in all an entertaining and not
unreasonable way to while away a few hours. 😱
————————————————————————————————————————
5 stars is great (I rarely give this rating).
4 stars is good (given only to interesting and well-written books).
3 stars is OK (the usual listen I encounter on Audible).
2 stars is poor (and not worth the credit or the listen).
1 star is awful (and to be diss'ed and shunned and spread as thus through out the Audible Universe)!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 😱

Yes, Strong Parallels To Die Hard but ...

still, there's more than enough differences to make the book interesting and exciting.

J.N. Chaney and Christopher Hopper did an excellent job developing Flint's backstory that introduced and included his wife, his best friend and his a-hole corrupt police chief. The primary antagonist was every bit as malicious as Alan Rickman in the movie. The environment building was well written, even if most of it was describing the floors and rooms of the tower.

Then there were the unique differences starting with the all-too-proper AI who befriended him along the way, the futuristic medical tech and, of course WEAPONS!

The only area that was left out was no mention of Flint's providing assistance to his dead partner's orphaned kids.

Mark Boyett delivers his come-to-expect shine on narrating the story.

Overall, I liked the series and thought it worth using a credit on or purchasing it.

Surprisingly not bad but.. overall identity crisis

This is exactly Die Hard in space. But with the threads of ancient artifacts and larger political corruption. The action is simplified and borderline boring. it's not terrible but I am seeing that I won't be buying the 2ndcbook.
