About this listen

They are Florida's most mismatched legal duo: one a glamorous Miami blue blood, the other a Coconut Grove beach bum. And when they get together, you can throw every law right out the window.

What do you get when you mix beautiful people, family secrets, and a yacht washed up on Sunset Key with a hundred grand in cash and a dying man? Steve Solomon sees a case that can get Solomon & Lord off the ground. But Victoria Lord spies a golden opportunity to go out on her own. With her uncle as a murder suspect and her hunky ex-boyfriend back in the picture, Victoria is pushing to take control as Solomon struggles to keep from losing it. And as an explosive trial looms, they're fighting against time, the law, and each other to expose a killer who came to paradise and hasn't left.

Try the original

When I read "Solomon vs Lord", Paul Levine's first audio book, I laughed out loud at the clever, witty banter between the 2 main characters. I was really looking forward this novel, but frankly I was somewhat disappointed. I know why - the narrator is different. While this book is good, Christopher Lane (who narrated the first novel) did a much better job with the sharp, back and forth banter than this narrator. Good book, but it could have been alot better.

Intricate, interesting plot, but....

The plot has lots of twists and mostly holds together. The dialogue is snappy and amusing, though not as good as in the original Solomon and Lord. The setting is rich with vivid descriptions, especially of the nudist colony. The tropical reef truly comes to life in glorious technicolor. BUT, I cannot rate it higher because of the totally false depiction of the coral snake. Levine described a small, highly venomous snake with no fangs as an enormous cross between a colorful python and a lethargic rattlesnake. The absurdity of that makes one question all his other details. I understand the willing suspension of disbelief, but out and out fabrication about the natural world is a step too far for me.

Not crazy this one

I enjoyed listing to the 1st book, took me a minute to get used to the narrator in the 1st book, but after a bit I did. But the 2nd book has a different narrator, which just turned my mind off from really enjoying this story. Not that the narrator was bad, actually, just the opposite, he was good but he wasn't "Solomon" so many books/stories are ruined because the narrator has been cchanged.

OK book.

Narrator doesn't seem to know Australian accent from a British one. Otherwise OK mildly entertaining

Leave the "H" off conch

Leave the "H" off conch and learn how to pronounce Tavernier Key. The reading was a distraction especially when you hear the all of the mispronunciations.

Auto correct, ruined my first review.

Since I can’t seem to go back and edit, I’ll add this addendum.
I said that Steve turns out to be low browed and tacky. The listener will also be very confused as to why a lovely woman with any dignity at all, would be manipulated into the nudist club. Those scenes are simply gratuitous, foolish, and impossible to believe. In the first book, Steve’s relationship to Bobby was his one redeeming quality. In this book, we find that he is hardly more to Bobby than an adolescent buddy. He provides absolutely no structure for the boys life. He is certainly no moral guide, and while Bobby does love Victoria, he is certainly being coached well in misogyny by his uncle.
I cannot recommend these characters. Therefore, I find the book to be a disappointment. I wanted to become more invested in these characters as the books went along. I wanted to find more and more to like about them. In this second book I found there is nothing to like about them at all.

Great listen

I loved "Solomon vs Lord" and this book was just as good. Maybe the first reader was better but William Dufris did a fine job. (If you want a bad reader listen to Sidney Sheldon read some of his stuff) I think that if you liked "Solomon vs Lord". you'll like this one.

Disappointed

Book one was SOOOOO Good!
I was excited it was a series. Everything I loved about the 1st one was missing in this one. The lack of writing was amplified by the difference in narrators.

Steve as whiney and Victoria as a 16 year old space cadet.

I will listen to the 3rd only because it's free through kindle (even though the narrator is the same).

PLEASE PAUL, get Christopher Lane to narrate #4

Fist book was better.

Good plot, but the nudist colony scene was not needed and made the book cheap.

Need New M Narrator

The narrator makes Victoria sound whiny which seems to go against her overall personality. Drove me crazy.
