About this listen

Death. Betrayal. Destruction.

This was Alaya's destiny, written in the stars on the night she was born. She should have been killed because of it.

She wasn't.

The once crown prince of the highest throne in Sundolia is now the high king, and all of his advisors agree on one thing: He should have destroyed that dangerous Dragon woman when he had the chance.

He didn't.

Now war spreads like a wildfire from the southern kingdom. The empire is burning. The day of prophecy is arriving. Alaya still lives, her power more dangerous and unpredictable than ever.

And the stars, it seems, told no lies. Or did they?

I think I’ve found my next favorite author in S.M. Gaither! This trilogy did not disappoint. I love that it is the same world as her Shadow and Crowns series. That has been my go to recommendation for a year now. This will be joking that list!

Doesn’t disappoint.

This was a great end to a fantastic trilogy! Lots of twists and turns. No smut! Just great story with a sweet romance that didn’t detract from the plot. The protagonist focused on what was most important.

The only thing that was off was the fact that nobody deals with their trauma. They all act like nothing ever happened. That part of the plot could have been better developed.

Great Ending

I definitely felt a rollercoaster of emotions while listening/reading to this! I started it as an audiobook and after a while I became too impatient and wanting to know the ending that I just had to look up the ebook and read it manually.

The plot absolutely keeps you hooked! The character development as well as each character’s progress is always on point! The description of every action and events absolutely makes you feel as if you are living it!

Absolutely one of my favorites now! A must read for fantasy/romance lovers!

I am so pleased with how this trilogy wrapped up. Be sure to read Shadows & Crowns to catch glimpses of these characters again! 🖤

What a finale!

The story was good, but I'm not a fan of betrayal-to-lovers, especially when it's done throughout the story. Is there a follow-up series after this? The end left me with questions. Also, I hated Jessie Villenski's narration. I had to speed it up to 1.45 to get through it and even then, I got distracted a lot by anything. There was no emotion in her voice, cadence was flat, monotone w/very slight inflection. She didn't help tie me to wither the characters or story. I just finished it and honestly, can't remember much of the series.
Maybe I'll just read any other S.M. Gaither books if Jessie does them all.

Decent story
