Publisher's summary
Seven years have passed since Mordecai’s battle with the Shining God, Celior.
Since that time, his control of his abilities has vastly improved. He has, at last, envisioned a use for the ‘God-Stone’, but the gods want vengeance and now seek to destroy everything he has built. The secrets of the past threaten the future of his kingdom, his family, and perhaps humanity itself, unless Mordecai can discover the meaning of ‘Illeniel’s Doom’.
How far will a desperate wizard go to protect his children…or will his efforts merely damn them all?

Story
The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Kihrin is a bastard orphan who grew up on storybook tales of long-lost princes and grand quests. When he is claimed against his will as the long-lost son of a treasonous prince, Kihrin finds that being a long-lost prince isn't what the storybooks promised. He also discovers that the storybooks have lied about a lot of other things, too: dragons, demons, gods, prophecies, true love, and how the hero always wins. Then again, maybe he’s not the hero, for Kihrin is not destined to save the empire. He’s destined to destroy it.

Off to the next in the series ….
This series is turning out to be my most favorite of all time and I’ve read / listened to more books than I can count . Even though I’m very new to audiobooks, I’ve always loved to read ! Anyway I love Mordecai’s character and the others that the author has created in this story. As I’ve said in my other reviews Penelope’s character irritated me from book one ! Her attitude got under my skin and I always liked Rose better. But I cant take stars for that bc the books are amazing regardless ….

Another great book!
Some Spoilers!
You can really feel how Mordecai, Penny, and other characters have grown and matured since the last book. I am stoked Mordecai resisted temptation n remained faithful to his wife and fam. Really enjoyed the book! The story grabs hold of you and doesnt let you go. The ending was heartbreaking ! Left me wanting answers and just more! Cant wait for the next book. For now - Wizards Crown, Michael Mannings newest in his Art of the Adept series. The narration is perfect! I stumbled on Michael Manning last yr n Im so glad I did- like finding a pot of gold.

Exciting! Action packed
I like Mr Mannings stories and this one as well! It’s action packed, emotional, and what I consider a great fantasy story. Every book I read from Mr Manning I want more, either as audio, ebook or just a common read. His stories have all the elements I love. Action being the most important, magic, love and emotions.
