About this listen

Charlie Howard - globe-trotting mystery writer, professional thief, and poor decision maker - is in Paris. Flush with the success of his latest book reading, Charlie agrees to show a complete novice how to break into an apartment in the Marais. Fast-forward twenty-four hours and Charlie's hired to steal an ordinary-looking oil painting - from the exact same address. Mere coincidence? Charlie figures there's no harm in finding out - until a dead body turns up in his living room and he finds himself evading the law while becoming caught up in a quite outrageous heist. And that's before Charlie's literary agent, Victoria, finally decides that they should meet face to face. Nobody ever said a life of suspense was ever easy, but Charlie, the most disarmingly charming burglar since Cary Grant, soon finds things are getting way out of control.

Fun!

One of the best parts for me was trying to follow along in the city where he was! Paris is one of my favorite visits and it’s why I picked this book. Then I had to read all the others!

Okay

Great book except for three unresolved yet formidable propositions. My opinion only.

Good thief entangled again

In this episode, the good thief naively accepts a "training exercise" that embroils him in another complicated mess.

It doesn't seem to matter that he has a good job offer from a trusted source. It makes for a disasterous first meeting with his editor. It leaves him not knowing who, if anyone, is on his side. He must sort it all out on his own. In the end, he suffers banishment and must move on.

I am looking forward to the next episode.

Simon Vance is always an excellent narrator.

The fruits of stupidity

The beginning of this story defies belief. The main character is given to exceptionally bad decisions. With luck and wit he claws his way out of the situation. The whole thing strains credulity, but it is well written and lots of fun.

Modern James Bond/Pink Panther

These are really fun books and I found "Paris" to be the best in the series.

Good Mystery

I enjoyed the characters and mystery aspects of the story. I got a few guesses correct but other parts were a surprise.

Entertaining, witty, AND a good mystery!

I had never heard of this author before, but I was attracted by the title and the fact that it took place in Paris, of which I'm very familiar. Also, the reviews said it was humorous. It was a delightful romp through my favorite city and my favorite haunts, but witty and humorous and perfectly portrayed by the narrator. I'm delighted to have found this writer and this series, and will continue to read them. However, I'm always disappointed when they are comparatively short. But, this is such an entertaining listen, that is worth a credit.
