About this listen

Jupter Tech's headquarters, Olympus, has been attacked. Lives have been lost in the real world. Alexander and friends must now thwart the servants of the Dark One both in and out of the game. With a few new allies, the Greystone Guild moves out of the noob zones to take on the challenges presented by the ruins of Dire Keep and its inhabitants. They must conquer, rebuild, and defend the Dire Lands against attacking forces.

The players (and Fibble) must now overcome tougher dungeons, and more dangerous foes. Even betrayal by one of their own! Soundbooth Theater presents the long anticipated sequel to one of the most beloved LitRPG titles of the year! Jeff Hays has stepped up to take on the narration, and although Laurie Catherine Winkel has taken a back seat for this installment, she still reprises her roles of all the ladies of the Greystone Guild, and of course, Fibble!

The Soundbooth Theater team for this production:

  • Jeff Hays - Narration, sound design
  • Laurie Catherine Winkel - Sasha, Fibble, and the rest of the female cast
  • Dalton Lynne - Proofing and editing
  • Griffin Malnar - Editing and mastering

keeps getting better

I really enjoyed how the author was able to make this story with using both the game world an the real world. as the pk guild take them on in both worlds with epic fighting in the game world an forms of terrorism in the real world. an they also gain many more guild members an a dragon. so if you enjoyed the first book like i did get this 2nd book. or you did not enjoy i say try giving this 2nd book a chance it gets more in depth an also has town building in it an really starts to get a good plot to it now they know that it is the dark one doing all these things

Nice Followup to the first book.

Nice Followup to the first book. The change in primary narrator does not diminish the story.

story is good but

Story is good but the problem is a simple one. I get leaving your readers in suspense for the next book. You know, cliff hangers and all that. But this guy is really bad at it. You leave them in suspense when a big part of the plot is about to be shown or something. Not in the middle of a run. So yeah the story is good and I'll continue reading this series. I'm hoping it doesn't take as long for the next book as this one. But I do hope he stops leaving things hanging in such a crap way in the future.

SBT brings it again

the slight change in narration (additions, not replacements) does nothing to harm the book as I've experienced many times before.
it is a pleasure to my earholes to know every character by destinct voices, and for additional effect sound effects have been added where appropriate.

as to the story, it picks up right where book 1 left. the story is well paced and better told.
the only negatives is a somewhat forced romantic angel and the cliffhanger...
goddesses damn Dave, why the Cliffhanger?? you should know better!!

even so I cannot recommend this book enough and if you come across this review after book 3 is published, what are you waiting for??
my largest complaint is a none issue to you :)

Wonderful litRPG fantasy!

Such a wonderful story! The writing is truly exquisite. I can picture the surroundings and the characters as they wander to and fro. At times the dialogue seems slightly adolescent; I don’t know how else to explain my impression. It in no way detracts from the tale, and the feeling is gone as quickly as it appeared. The main character, Alexander is a prince among men; his humanity and compassion are beyond reproach. He’s also one heck of a wheeler-dealer with the Dwarves. The rest of the Greystone Clan are honorable and steadfast as well. Kai the dragon, Fibble the goblin, and later the Gryphon are wonderful additions. The storyline follows Alexander and the crew through an exciting world-building experience. The dungeon explorations are well-crafted also. The game mechanics are well-done, unobtrusive, and accurately portrayed. The narration provided by Jeff Hays and Laurie Winkel is excellent; I can immediately tell which character is talking without prodding. I love that Irish brogue of the Dwarves, especially Lola’s. The war with PWP both in-game and IRL is an interesting twist and adds to the plotline and scope of the tale. All-in-all a great piece of litRPG fantasy. I look forward to the next volume. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

to many speeches

I don't like all the speeches and how things come so easily for him. I also still think he is a big bully himself.

outstanding book and author

keep them coming. I have only one more to listen too and I will be finished with all of Dave Willmarth's audio books. they rock, good natured litrpg. they have good action, the right amount of game mechanics without repeating stats to death. they have a story and plot that keeps your interest andparys that may choke you up and parts that make you laugh. Thanks Dave, after the next book I will be waiting for new releases. I highly recommend this author
