About this listen

Are you who you are because of your parents…but you’d never admit it?

If you’ve ever rolled your eyes at your parents’ quirks only to realize you’re exactly like them, this book is for you.

The Hilarious Truth about Parenting, Children and Relationships is a laugh-out-loud journey through the chaos, hilarity, and occasional wisdom of growing up in a family full of rules, traditions, and those all-too-familiar phrases we swore we’d never repeat (Spoiler alert: We repeat them).

From “Clean your plate or else” guilt trips to the infamous “We’ll see…”—which is just a parent’s way of saying no—these hysterical stories will leave you laughing, cringing, and maybe even tearing up. Each chapter is packed with real-life moments, exaggerated chaos, and a secret heartwarming truth about what it means to be raised by parents who cared a little too much.

Inside this book, you’ll discover:

  • The power struggles over the TV remote and the art of tactical channel flipping.
  • Why leaving the lights on is a crime punishable by endless dad lectures.
  • A survival guide for awkward family dinners featuring tuna casseroles and guilt-trips about wasting food.
  • How yelling at your kid’s sports games is an Olympic sport (and your parents are gold medalists).
  • And the hidden truths behind all those phrases that drove you crazy but shaped who you are today.

Why you’ll love this book: It’s funny. Like, “I-can’t-breathe” funny. Every story will remind you of your own family, whether you’re the one raising kids now or still recovering from your own parents’ creative parenting tactics. It’s the perfect mix of humor, heart, and those moments that make you think, Maybe my parents weren’t so crazy after all.

Perfect for parents, adult children, or anyone who’s ever survived a family gathering with a little laughter and a lot of eye-rolling.

Download now to laugh, reminisce, and maybe even admit (in secret, of course) that your parents were right all along.

Awesome!

This audiobook captures the chaos and comedy of family life in such a relatable way. If you've ever rolled your eyes at your parents’ quirks only to realize you’ve inherited them, this book will hit home in the funniest way possible.

The stories are so vivid, you’ll feel like you’re reliving those childhood moments, battles over the TV remote, guilt trips about food, and the infamous dad lectures about wasting electricity. But this book isn’t just about laughs. Beneath the humor is a sweet and heartfelt message about what it means to grow up in a family. Those little annoyances and quirky traditions actually shaped us in ways we never realized until now.

Takes Me Back to My Childhood

I thought Id gone back in time, I could hear my father's voice clearly. This authors childhood memories and lessons shared are both refreshingly honest and laugh-out-loud! funny. Parenting truly feels like and endless, chaotic battle, and the comparison to a full-contact sport couldn't be more spot on! The reminder that we"re all shaped by our parents, whether we realise it or not is both insightful and humbling.
This book captures the messiness of parenting perfectly, reminding us that nobody has it all figured out-we've all just making it up as we go. (but lets keep that our little secret from the kids)!
But I enjoyed the simularities to my childhood. My husband was the energy freak out guy! Ha! Ha! I must of said " because I said so a million times to my children....

Oh! I can relate!

I don’t believe anyone is “really” ever prepared for parenthood. Parenting is an evolving thing. Parenting in the 70s when I was young is very different than it is nowadays. But much like what is said in the book, most parents do in fact “accidentally get it right!”

I can totally relate to most of the hilarious stories in this book! My mom would not let us use the front door because she didn’t want us kids to wear out her orange shag carpet! And she also mandated that us kids eat ALL of the food on our plate because there were in fact starving kids in Africa. Now, I am in my 50s, and I’m still conditioned to eat all the food on my plate even if I’m full. It has led to a chronic weight problem, and G.E.R.T. THANKS MOM!!

“Because I said so” seems to be her go to answer every time we asked why?! But as a parent, now I understand it’s a parental right to say “because I said so”.

I don’t know exactly how old the author that wrote this book is, but it seems like we are about the same age because we grew up with about the same experiences. That’s why I titled my review “I can relate”. There are so many stories in this book that made me laugh and that happened to me when I was a kid as well. I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a trip down memory lane for me.
