Heralded by New York magazine as one of the city's most popular diets, macrobiotics has become the latest trend in dieting, thanks to high-profile supporters like Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Speaking to the generation of young women looking to extend their healthy lifestyles beyond yoga and Pilates, macrobiotic chef and instructor Jessica Porter offers fresh, contemporary, and accessible insight into one of the world's oldest, yet most popular, diets. She explains that by eating good quality whole foods, any woman can experience physical, sensory, emotional, and intellectual freedom.
The effects of eating a macrobiotic diet can extend beyond basic health to weight loss, beauty, better sex, and peace of mind. Cooking tips and recipes are combined with Jessica's no-nonsense philosophy and witty anecdotes to create a lifestyle book that will inspire women to hit the kitchen with an understanding of how to strengthen their minds and bodies through food.

What made the experience of listening to The Hip Chick's Guide to Macrobiotics the most enjoyable?
The Hip Chick knows all about macrobiotics. She was in a top spot at the Kushi Institute, and she has many years of experience living and cooking the macrobiotic way. Her delivery is spirited, and she reveals a treasury of information that otherwise could take years, not hours, to glean and assimilate. What other book might you compare The Hip Chick's Guide to Macrobiotics to and why?
"The Complete Macrobiotic Diet" by Denny Waxman is also excellent. His book emphasizes more of the spiritual and lifestyle sides of macrobiotics. Unfortunately, it does not come in an audio version. What about Jessica Porter’s performance did you like?
Her spirit and sense of humor. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, there was too much information to absorb in one sitting. It was worth a second listening. I'm contemplating another listening in case I missed something.Any additional comments?
Jessica's book gives me the confidence to approach and initiate myself into macrobiotic cooking and life. It was great -- a real inspiration!Worth listening and re-listening
