About this listen

From the Amazon bestselling author of What We Forgot to Bury comes a twisted psychological tale of a mother and daughter’s mind-bending descent into the truth.

From the outside looking in, Sibley Sawyer has a perfect life. As a successful attorney, she’s worked hard to get to the top of her game--but when her personal and professional lives implode, Sibley looks for a way to turn the page.

Unable to shake the tragic circumstances that caused her to flee her rural Midwestern hometown, Sibley wants nothing more than to reunite with her estranged mother, Deborah, and bury their past tensions.

But as she reenters the life she left behind, she realizes her mother isn’t the same person she remembers, and she’s not the same daughter either.

As both women struggle to piece together a tangled web of deceit and lies, and the shocking circumstances that caused Sibley to leave in the first place, it becomes clear there are secrets rooted deeper than either mother or daughter could ever have imagined.

Can you really deceive your past and those around you?

Save your credit

I have to say that I did not care for this book even though I finished it. The main character makes me wonder how she ever managed to become a lawyer! The only character that I liked or had sympathy for once her mother. There were some parts of this plot that weren’t explained at the end. I won’t go into detail because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone else. This is definitely going to be a return and I wish I could get all those hours back of wasted reading time! I really don’t like giving bad reviews. Normally I will not post a bad review. I will just return the book. This time I just wanted somebody to save the credit and get a heads up!

I LIKED IT!!

I enjoyed this book! I thought it was well written and the narrator was great! Not sure about all those negative reviews: was I listening to the same book as everyone else 😵‍💫??

I wanted to give it a solid five stars to bring the ratings up. However, the story did get a little silly towards the end, but then righted itself back on track to a pretty solid finish. Overall, not bad, not bad at all….☺️

The psychological manipulation of Deborah.

A mother-daughter relationship restored through a collage of difficulties and mysteries, all resolved through the return of Sibly to her hometown.

Loved it

Good book. However, due to both the past and present references, you will need to keep up! 😄

Author should have done more research

Regarding Imposter syndrome (Google it if you doubt me) the disorder is relatively common and not at ALL like it is in this book, def does NOT "mirror main character's mother's behavior" Imposter syndrome is experienced by 30-30% of high performers and it is when someone relatively skilled /schooled feels as though they are "faking it" and not as skilled as they really are, period! it isn't chronic, doesn't cause violence or ANY of the characteristics of the maternal character in this tome. odd in this time where information is as close as a mouse-click away, that this type of error would be missed by author, editor AND publisher! Bummed me out as I formerly enjoyed this author & publisher now, I am not sure what to feel regarding author's lack of accuracy...

Boring

Did not care for this at all. Another book that drags on with little action until the end. Characters were not too relatable. Could not really root for anyone.

Unrealistic

I found this story just dragged on and I couldn't get into it. I honestly couldn't wait until the end just to find out what was going on but otherwise kind of suffered through this. It was very unrealistic!

Stupid Waste of Time

Where are the glowing reviews? Supposedly the average review is over 4 stars? That has to be made up. The story drags on and on and on.... I am so glad this was free! Go get your teeth drilled instead.

They’re not all great, are they?!…

I wasn’t impressed at all. Many times I almost stopped it. Didn’t like the Sibley… didn’t like that none of the story even resolved til the end. Usually the author gives some sort of “ah ha” moments during the book. This entire thing didn’t make sense til the end and then I was left feeling so disappointed… I hate saying this because I know the author worked hard on it, but it felt rushed and lacking… not great, unfortunately 😕
