About this listen

The sequel to the chilling, unforgettable book that asks...could you survive The Call?

After so much danger, Nessa and Anto can finally dream of a happy life. But the terrible attack on their school has created a witch-hunt for traitors - boys and girls who survived the Call only by making deals with the enemy. To the authorities, Nessa's guilt is obvious. Her punishment is to be sent back to the nightmare of the Grey Land for the rest of her life. The Sídhe are waiting, and they have a very special fate planned for her.

Meanwhile, with the help of a real traitor, the enemy come pouring into Ireland at the head of a terrifying army. Every human they capture becomes a weapon. Anto and the last students of his old school must find a way to strike a blow at the invaders before they lose their lives, or even worse, their minds.

But with every moment Anto is confronted with more evidence of Nessa's guilt. For Nessa, the thought of seeing Anto again is the only thing keeping her alive. But if she escapes, and if she can find him, surely he is duty-bound to kill her....

I realize Amy Shiels is an experienced voice over artist but she did not do a good job here. Great story and the narration doesn't make it unbearable but it could have been so much better.

Terrible Narration

This was one of those rare book series (2 books) that I was not happy to see end. It had amazing characters that you become fond of or grow to hate! The story picks right up from the last book and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Loved the ending, loved the narration. Great job Peadar O’Guilin!! Trust me get these 2 books you will love them!!

Loved it!

can't say enough about these two books. so good on so many levels. story, prose, character development- the whole package.

amazing

Great story that expands on the first book, and I was excited since that first one is narrated very well. This one, though read by the same woman, isn't nearly as well performed. The characters' accent wobble all over, more than a few phrases receive jarring or confusingly misplaced emphasis, and whenever there's a tense moment at the end of a sentence or chapter the narration slows....down...in...super...fake...drama that makes me feel like an overly eager parent is trying to give me a fright on Halloween. Sadly, this second effort lets the series down.

Phoned-in narration effort

The perfect way to end a tale… although for the main characters that survived, it was only the beginning wasn’t it? The first book, I finished in three days, and this one four. Something about these stories, the relatable essence of the characters, the horrifying creatures, all of it, had me unable to stop diving back in to find out what happened.

Perfect Ending… or beginning

To begin, and for reference, some of my favorite books:
The Magicians Trilogy - Lev Grossman
Red Rising series - Pierce Brown
Riyria series & Age/empire - Michael J Sullivan
Chronicles of Amber - R. Zelazny
Shades of Magic - VE Schwabb
The Quantum Magician - D. Kunsken
Etc. etc.
This book also tops my my list...
It’s an incredible dilogy or duology or whatever (2 book series, whatever the word for that is) and wish it wasn’t over! Also wish it was a better known series. The author and his works deserve to be heard so more work proliferates for my hungry ears (or eyes). Avid readers and audible-philes deserve to know it’s out there. Start with the first book. This is the sequel. I’m not even going to explain the book. If you like the above authors and books, then this is for you

Top 10 book

I stumbled across this book and decided to read it based on the reviews. Overall this book was good but not great. Even after finishing the second book, I still clearly don't understand much of the plot. Characters were often one dimensional. Actions were often telegraphedand results were often random. okay, but also clearly forgettable.

Okay but not great

Such a fun and macabre story. The narrator is one of the best I’ve listened too.

Great Narrator and Story

I absolutely loved the first book and this one was just as good. The narrator did a fantastic job and the story further explores both the Irish people and how they are coping with the call as well as the fairy folk and how they are dealing with it all. I would 100% recommend this if you liked the first one.

What a sequel...

I have always liked hearing stories of little people to fairies. This book was written more for a younger audience, but; I couldn’t help listening to the narrator open up this world. Story was well written and different. Looking forward for more.

What a fun story!
