About this listen

Virginia Henley pens sumptuous historical romances eagerly devoured by fans. In The Irish Duke, Henley delivers an enthralling tale about a woman determined not to fall in love. Lord Abercorn of Ireland fell madly for Louisa when they were children. But she refused him then, as she still refuses every man, adamant she will never marry. Yet when scandal rocks her family, Louisa must accept Lord Abercorn as her husband.

A good historical novel.

The book was a little hard to follow at first. Mainly because I was struggling with the narrator. The story became very interesting after I got into it and I got used to the narrator. I had been listening to a few other superb narrators so I had to adjust. This is a historical novel which I always enjoy.

Wonderful historic love story.

Enjoyed this story from the first to the last page, and WOW!! The narrator was one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of listening to.

Long and Rambling

This book had potential but i was unable to get use to the readers voice. The book seemed to ramble on too much filler.

Crosseyed with boredom ...

... but I made it to the 6th chapter before I gave up. I don't often review publications unless I am really enthusiastic about the story. Even less often do I give a negative review because I can usually find something redeeming in the writing. However, I found this tale so dry; the characters stilted, snobbish, spoiled and unlikable. I found the class consciousness so distasteful as well as the fact that none of the characters contributed anything worthwhile outside of their insularity. Maybe it improved with further listening but I really couldn't invest in it. I even found the narration irritating.
