About this listen

On May 18th, 1863 - the day the siege of the Confederate stronghold at Vicksburg began - a secret war chest was removed by an ironclad and taken away along the Mississippi River. It contained a covenant capable of altering the entire course of the Civil War. Its destination was Washington, D.C. A place it never reached.

In the present day, Minnesotan senator Arthur Perry has enlisted the help of Sam Reilly to track down his son, who went missing while following a strange lead in the centuries-old search for the fabled Meskwaki Gold Spring within Lake Superior.

No one could have suspected that these two events, separated by more than 150 years, were inextricably linked....

Abit derivative, but entertaining

The good...it's reasonably well researched and has some entertaining moments involving Sam R. Interesting larger than life character.
The very good...Gilmore well suited to perform this book, and keeps it fresh and lively.
The mediocre..well, the plot lines in this series are very derivative and repetitive. To be expected in a series with this duration.
You sort of have to like this series...but, on balance, it's not bad.

I received my copy of this offering from the author in exchange for this independent review.

Sam & the Sea!! Awesome!

I really enjoy the Sam Reilly series. I find the stories to be relaxing to listen to but also very intriguing. Christopher Cartwright spins his words with facts and gives us a highly entertaining listen. I enjoy how he weaves reality with his imagination so well. The story is well written, the characters nicely developed and plot steady. As usual with Sam Reilly we get action, adventure, suspense and mystery. The narration is wonderfully done by David Gilmore. I feel Sam Reilly is a mix of Sam Spade and Indiana Jones...love it! Highly recommend this entire series!

Gimme more Sam Reilly

Once again this series really stretches reality, and once again, I find that I don' really care because I am being entertained.

I like that this book pulls away from the Master Builder arc and is just a fun independent adventure. The same old reliable characters are here, and more of the diving and boats that you come to expect. It once again delivers on the fun tales of Sam.

A Smashing Good Tale!

I couldn't help but take some time before rating this book. You know those books which are so good, touch you so deeply, and fill your mind with a little fear and wonder? Well, this was that type of story. Also, the words are brought to life wonderfully thanks to a very talented narrator. This is one book that will stay with you!

Very Interesting…

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This review is for the audio copy of The Ironclad Covenant: A Sam Reilly Novel by Christopher Cartwright, and narrated by David Gilmore. The story starts out and I think to myself, what book did I order, then, all of a sudden, I’m thrust into a different timeline. I’ll leave it at that so you can figure out what I am talking about. My fears were allayed as the story started into a very well written and interesting tale. I looked forward to listening to it every chance I got. David Gilmore did a great job in reading the story. I could see the characters in my mind. This was my first Sam Reilly novel and I started in book 10. Based on this book I believe you can read them in any order. I’ll confirm that by reading/listening to more Sam Reilly novels.

Good read, good series

The Ironclad Covenant, my tenth read from author Christopher Cartwright & the tenth book in the highly entertaining Sam Reilly series. A well-written thriller with captivating & well-developed main characters. Reminds me of Dan Brown’s early writing as well as the character of Indiana Jones. Since I live in northern Michigan & am employed by Beneteau North America the setting & some aspects of the book had particular appeal to me. I’ll be reading more by this author as I already own more books in the series! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

A great Adventure story

A really top notch Adventure story, History, Treasure, & Mystery all rolled into one story.
I hate predictable stories, this one will keep you on your toes & keep surprising you.
The Narrator is easy to listen to & well spoken making the book an easy listen.

Quite happy with this book

I was given this book free in exchange for an honest review.
I would say this is the best free book that i have encountered and i would have been happy paying for it. I found that while i wasn't really in love with any particular aspect of the book it was very entertaining and kept coming back to it over other books as i often have several going at once. It was a clever adventure / mystery with a bit of history mixed in - im not sure about the accuracy but i don't care either way. I felt the narrator was solid and did all the voices well, besides one Irish fellow that was pretty bad in my opinion (he is barely in the book though).
I had no clue it was a part of a series and didn't feel like i lost anything not having read the others. I would recommend trying it and i think i will try another in the series
