"Pirhalla’s excellent narration highlights Frank’s insecurities, which are contrasted with the confidence of Aidan and his family. Pirhalla’s strong characterizations are carefully crafted. Listeners will enjoy having their perceptions change with each twist of the plot, and Pirhalla’s spot-on timing will also help keep them engaged."—AudioFile

From the bestselling author of Hidden Pictures comes a breathtaking work of suspense about a father trying to save his daughter from a life-altering decision that will put everything he loves on the line.

Frank Szatowski is shocked when his daughter, Maggie, calls him for the first time in three years. He was convinced that their estrangement would become permanent. He’s even more surprised when she invites him to her upcoming wedding in New Hampshire. Frank is ecstatic, and determined to finally make things right.

He arrives to find that the wedding is at a private estate—very secluded, very luxurious, very much out of his league. It seems that Maggie failed to mention that she’s marrying Aidan Gardner, the son of a famous tech billionaire. Feeling desperately out of place, Frank focuses on reconnecting with Maggie and getting to know her new family. But it’s difficult: Aidan is withdrawn and evasive; Maggie doesn’t seem to have time for him; and he finds that the locals are disturbingly hostile to the Gardners. Frank needs to know more about this family his daughter is marrying into, but if he pushes too hard, he could lose Maggie forever.

An edge-of-your-seat thriller that delves deep into the heart of one family, The Last One at the Wedding is a work of brilliant suspense from a true modern master.

The beginning and the middle

📖 Book Review 📖
The Last One at the Wedding by Jason Rekulak

I listened to this on audio 🎧 non-stop. Binged it like a season of FRIENDS in 2 days. And not just because the story captivated me but because @john.pirhalla narrated this gem and his voice is just amazing!
Idk if I would’ve titled this book what the author did, bc to me, it doesn’t seem like it fits just right.
This is about the best dad in the world, Frank, a UPS driver of 26 years, accident free in all that time, and his daughter, Maggie. Maggie gets into some scrapes and seems like the opposite of Frank but she’s getting married and invites her dad to the wedding. This is where Frank starts unraveling the truth and lies and we begin to see what all Maggie has gotten herself into.
Like I said, it’s a riveting tale and I was about to give this story a full 5 ⭐️ until I got to the very end. This is where I felt like: 1. The ending was very rushed and 2. The ending did not come to a sufficient close as I thought. It’s definitely over but I feel like I don’t have any closure and that saddens me. Therefore, I’ll give this 4 ⭐️ instead. The ending I’ll rate 1 ⭐️ 😂

Complicated characters

Very interesting story line. kept me guessing. I don't like when male narrators do women's voices or women doing men's voices.

Hooked but then disappointed.

I thought the storyline was great but the ending was rushed and didn’t really give you what you were expecting.

Hooked me quick but…

Book was good and I was intrigued but honestly fell so flat at the end. The ending just wasn’t good or well fleshed out. I was left with more questions than answers. So unfortunately I agree with the other reviews that it had me most of the way but the ending felt like the author ran out of time.

Long book with great start

I had expected more twists in the plot because it had a great foundation. Was disappointed in the ending.

Outstanding!

So good I couldn’t stop listening! Very well crafted—details I noticed early, thinking “that’s going to come back later,” still managed to surprise me when they did indeed show up again later. Audio performance was also nicely done.

Frank’s the Best

I really enjoyed this book and getting to know Frank and his sister, Tammy. This story was hard to put down because there were so many unsettling things happening that I just needed to find out all the answers. I think the ending was as realistic as possible. Definitely bittersweet.
