About this listen

This is DC Smith's third investigation with the Diver and Diver Associates agency. They have been asked by a member of Norfolk's aristocracy to look into the tragic death of her younger brother, Freddie, the late Lord Thorpe of the title. The inquest verdict was of misadventure, but it isn't long before Smith begins to suspect there has been a serious miscarriage of justice.

Another winner.

D.C. Smith always a great read. I couldn't put it down. And the narrator is as always right on the mark.

Brilliant narration of a complex story

I loved every aspect, especially the character of King's counsel Gloria Butterfield. For a retired lawyer, the details are exquisite.

Another excellent book!

I look forward to the next book! I so enjoy the boys and the reader. The expressions make me feel I’m right there in the room participating in the story. I love how you continue to tie back into previous characters that now have their own series!

Impeccable

As always, story and characters were engaging and complex. An audio joy too - perfect pairing of prose and voice.

Smith in “Retirement”

I had wondered if the main character, DC Smith, would remain as interesting as a retired police officer as he was when he was still working full time. The answer is that he may even be more interesting because the character is more complex. In addition, the new characters add a lot, both the returning ones and the ones developed for just this novel. A good read. I recommend the book and the series.

Overall, performance and story!

Peter Grainger is extraordinary. His books are enjoyable and entertaining from cover to cover. More than that, the author is astute about human nature, and displays a dry, wry and witty humor.
The most difficult part now is patiently waiting for the next book.
