About this listen

Jane Whitefield helps people disappear. Fearing for their lives, fleeing dangerous situations, her clients come to her when they need to vanish completely - to assume a new identity and establish a new life somewhere they won't be found. And when people are desperate enough to need her services, they come to the old house in Western New York where Jane was raised to begin their escape.

It's there that, one spring night, Jane finds a young woman fresh from LA with a whole lot of trouble behind her. After she cheated on her boyfriend, he dragged her to the home of the offending man and made her watch as he killed him. She testified against the boyfriend, but a bribed jury acquitted him, and now he's free and trying to find and kill her.

Jane agrees to help, and it soon becomes clear that outsmarting the murderous boyfriend is not beyond Jane's skills. But the boyfriend has some new friends: members of a Russian organized crime brotherhood. When they learn that Sara is traveling with a tall, dark-haired woman who makes people vanish, the Russians become increasingly interested in helping the boyfriend find the duo. They've heard rumors that such a woman existed - and believe that, if forcibly extracted, the knowledge she has of past clients could be worth millions.

It was good enough

Not Janes best outing but still interesting. Annoyed that the narrator consistently mispronounced’feral’ and ‘Appalachian’.

my dream author - thank you, I wit for each "Jane"

book, I held this one for a while, and hope that Mr. Perry honors us with another novel soon. i am endlessly amazed at what a
n excellent job T. Perry does writing from a female's point of view, and the Native American filled lore sprinkled throughout is like your first bite into a custard filled 🍩 donut, sweet, delish and wholly satisfying.

Best Ever

I almost quit reading less than 10 minutes from end because I was so upset at the ending but glad I didn't abandon the book! The Russian mafia is after Jane when they learned of the most recent "disappearance" Jane Whitefield was helping with. They don't care about the girl but recognize that Jane's information about the many people she helped escape death would be a good source of income from those looking for the escapees. She enters the 100 mile wilderness at the north end of the Appalachian Trail and 4 highly trained Russians follow. She defeats these four but more come looking for her even finding her safe house.

The narrator I enjoyed very much. Left off one star because to me the Russian woman's voice often sounded like Jane's lovely soothing voice.

Long chase story with unsurprising ending.

Too much like the Old Man; same story of the chase. No surprises. Unlikely ending.

Title was intriguing

The story was interesting, but predictable. The ending was cheesy and not as exciting as I hoped for.

Weak storyline and lots of repetition

I've listened to the full series quite recently, so they are fresh in my mind. This one was the least enjoyable. Other reviewers have mentioned the repetition, which probably accounted for 25% of the book. Some of it is necessary for anyone new to the story. But there was even repetition within this book, which showed sloppy editing at best. I am giving Joyce Bean 5 stars because she did a valiant job with horrible material to work with.

The wait is over

Finally, a new Jane Whitefield book! Mr. Perry has not disappointed us Jane Whitefield fans. And Joyce Bean is the perfect narrator. The ending is a sweet cliffhanger, leaving us saying, and? And? and? Please, Mr. Perry, do not make us wait long. ❤️

Edge of your seat read.

Enjoyed this story very much. Another reason Thomas Perry is one of my favorite authors and Jane Whitefield one of my favorite characters.
